Drake spent the past month giving fans enough clues to make Fear of Missing Out look like almost anything. A CD case, old family photographs and a scheduled YouTube event fueled theories about another album, a tour or a larger visual project.

He finally gave the mystery a format on Sept. 12. In a new teaser covered by Just Jared, Drake described Fear of Missing Out as “a not so short film directed and scored by the family” and set its YouTube premiere for Sept. 15 at 9 p.m. ET.

The preview shows Drake crossing the water in a neon-green speedboat while a woman narrates a choice between two versions of a person’s life. One is shaped by avoiding risks and withholding love, the other involves finding what had been missing.

Plenty is still being withheld. Drake has not announced a runtime, cast or detailed plot.

The Sept. 12 clip is the clearest explanation Drake has offered since the FOMO campaign began. The words “Fear of Missing Out” appear at the end of a teaser built around water, the bright-green speedboat and the woman’s narration before the Sept. 15 date returns.

Drake’s caption supplies the project’s most concrete production description so far, “directed and scored by the family.” The reference to a score immediately created another question. Complex noted that new Drake music remains possible because he specifically highlighted the score, but neither the teaser nor his caption announces a single, soundtrack or companion album.

The ‘FOMO’ Trail Started With Old Family Photos

Drake first used the phrase publicly in this rollout on Aug. 12, when he shared a carousel of old family photographs captioned “FOMO 2026.” The clues became more suggestive on Aug. 21.

Drake posted the back of a CD jewel case carrying the words “FEAR OF MISSING OUT” and accompanied it with a movie-camera emoji. Billboard Canada reported that the combination immediately fueled new-music speculation, even though the film emoji left open the possibility of a visual project.

The rollout became even harder to categorize when Drake was spotted filming at Toronto’s Canadian National Exhibition while dressed in an Iron Man-style suit. Reports at the time described the shoot as a possible music video, while some fans wondered whether it was connected to FOMO.

Another Album Was Not an Unreasonable Guess

Drake had already turned 2026 into one of the busiest release years of his career before the first FOMO clue appeared. On May 15, he simultaneously released Iceman, Habibti and Maid of Honour, a combined 43 tracks spread across three full-length albums.

The three projects then debuted at Nos. 1, 2 and 3 on the Billboard 200, making Drake the first artist to hold all three of the chart’s top positions in the same week. Iceman opened at No. 1 with 463,000 equivalent album units, while Habibti and Maid of Honour followed at Nos. 2 and 3.
