Ella Langley did not write a long response after Doja Cat admitted she had no idea who the country singer was. She borrowed Doja’s words instead.
Langley posted a collection of photos and videos from her Dandelion Tour on Aug. 27 with a caption that read, “Ella Langley? What is that?” The line directly echoed Doja’s reaction when Caleb Pressley brought up Langley during a recent interview, according to E! News.
Doja’s original comments came during the Aug. 23 edition of Sundae Conversation. When Pressley asked whether she was an “Ella’s Fella,” Doja appeared confused and said, “I don’t know what that is.” Asked directly whether she liked Langley, she again said she did not know who Pressley meant.
Doja later listened to “Choosin’ Texas” and added context that was largely absent from the first viral clip. She still did not personally like the song or country music more broadly, but she praised Langley’s voice and acknowledged the track’s catchy melody.

Langley’s Aug. 27 post did not otherwise center on Doja. The carousel showed moments from the road during the Dandelion Tour, while its caption supplied the reference: “Ella Langley? What is that?”
The Mirror described the post as a playful response, while Billboard similarly characterized Langley as turning Doja’s words into a joke of her own.
Doja Cat Really Did Not Know Who Langley Was
The exchange began with one of Pressley’s jokes. After pivoting to Langley, he asked Doja, “Are you an Ella’s Fella?” Doja responded, “I don’t know what that is.”
Pressley then asked more directly whether she liked Ella Langley. Doja again said she did not know what he was talking about and repeated Langley’s name as if trying to place it. Langley is currently one of the biggest artists on the Billboard charts, but Doja later insisted there was a simpler explanation, country music is not a genre she follows closely.
Doja Later Listened to ‘Choosin’ Texas’
During an Aug. 25 livestream, Doja addressed the attention surrounding the interview and listened to “Choosin’ Texas” for herself. She said country music generally does not interest or inspire her and maintained that Langley’s hit was not her style.
Her assessment of Langley herself was considerably more complimentary. Doja called her voice “very pretty,” described the melody as catchy and said she understood why the song worked on radio even though it was “not my vibe.”
When viewers interpreted her reaction as hate, Doja pushed back on that description. She said the song was not bad simply because she did not personally enjoy it, eventually stopping the track after listening for a little over a minute.
‘Choosin’ Texas’ Is in Historic Territory on the Hot 100
“Choosin’ Texas” is spending its 19th total week at No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100 dated Aug. 29, tying Lil Nas X and Billy Ray Cyrus’ “Old Town Road” and Shaboozey’s “A Bar Song (Tipsy)” for the longest reign by a non-holiday song in the chart’s history.
Langley is not represented by only one major hit on the current chart. “I Can’t Love You Anymore,” her collaboration with Morgan Wallen, sits at No. 6, while her solo track “Be Her” is No. 10.
