Elon Musk just dropped a bombshell tweet that’s got everyone from politicians to everyday folks fired up.  Just yesterday, the tech billionaire accused Minnesota Rep. Ilhan Omar of fraud, citing her husband’s massive wealth increase from $51,000 in 2023 to over $30 million today.

Musk quoted a Fox News clip shared by comedian Tim Young, adding his own twist: “Whoa! @willcain showed how Ilhan Omar’s husband went from being worth $51,000 in 2023 to now more than $30 million. She claims to not be a millionaire… so we can probably guess where all that sweet Somali daycare money slides to…”

The post quickly racked up millions of views, thousands of likes, and a storm of replies. Critics are calling Musk’s claim reckless, while supporters are demanding investigations. Let’s see the details.

The Tweet That Lit the Fuse

Musk’s accusation came straight out of a Fox & Friends segment hosted by Will Cain, who highlighted Omar and Mynett’s financial disclosures.

According to 2025 financial disclosure estimates, assets tied to Mynett’s businesses range from roughly $6 million to $30 million, representing a significant increase from the $1–$1,000 valuation reported in 2023.

Omar has pushed back hard against similar claims in the past. In a February 2025 interview with Business Insider, Ilhan Omar described claims that she personally is a millionaire as “categorically false” and part of a “disinformation campaign.”

Musk’s reference to “Somali daycare money” appears to allude to the Feeding Our Future scandal in Minnesota, in which federal prosecutors charged dozens of people with defrauding child nutrition programs of over $250 million.

The tweet exploded online, garnering over 5 million views in a matter of hours.

Digging Into the Wealth Jump

Tim Mynett, a political consultant, married Omar in 2020 after both divorced previous spouses. His firm, Rose Lake Capital, focuses on venture investments, but details are scarce.

Reports say the company quietly removed officer information from its website amid growing scrutiny. This move came as Minnesota’s welfare fraud investigations heated up. Since 2018, Omar’s campaign has paid more than $2.8 million to E Street Group, a firm where Mynett previously worked, for digital and consulting services.

While legal, critics argue it appears to be funneling money. Omar insists all payments were above board and disclosed.

The couple’s 2025 financial filing shows the surge tied mostly to Mynett’s businesses. Omar’s congressional salary is about $174,000, so the math points to his ventures as the source. But with no clear explanation for the rapid growth, questions linger.

Past Scandals Resurface

This isn’t Omar’s first financial controversy. In 2019, her ex-husband’s sister accused her of immigration fraud over her marriage timeline, claims Omar denied.

Then came the campaign payment stories, which led to FEC complaints but no charges. The “Somali daycare money” line ties back to the Feeding Our Future scandal, where 70 people were charged with defrauding child meal programs.

Omar’s district overlaps with affected areas, and she’s defended the community against broad-brush accusations. Musk’s tweet revives these, with some seeing it as dog-whistle politics.

Omar hasn’t responded directly to Musk yet, but her team has called similar reports “baseless smears.” Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz, a fellow Democrat, has stayed quiet, but GOP figures like JD Vance retweeted the clip.

Reactions Pour In From All Sides

Social media is divided. Musk’s fans cheered, with replies like “Arrest Ilhan Omar!” and memes calling for deportation. One viral post said, “Sure did,” agreeing with the fraud claim. Critics blasted Musk for hypocrisy, noting his own wealth ties to government contracts.

Brian Krassenstein replied, “Wait, so if you ever get married and your wife is instantly worth $700 billion, would that mean that your wife is a fraud?”

Progressives defended Omar, calling the attack racist and sexist. One user said, “So her net worth goes up by a few million by marrying a wealthy man and you think it’s fraud.

Donald Trump’s net worth goes up by $5 billion in a year and you think it’s all on the up and up?”

As outrage builds, calls for probes grow. House Republicans may push for an ethics review, but with a slim majority, it’s unclear. Omar remains a vocal Trump critic, so this feud could drag on.
