George Russell and Carmen Montero Mundt are engaged after six years together, marking a major personal milestone for the Mercedes Formula One driver.
Russell and Montero Mundt announced the news in a joint Instagram post on August 9. The photographs showed the couple during what appeared to be an intimate, candlelit dinner beside the beach, with Montero Mundt displaying her engagement ring.
The couple kept the announcement simple, captioning the carousel with only a ring emoji and a white heart.
The proposal came just two months after Russell publicly described Montero Mundt as part of his future and said he expected them to marry within the next five years.

The engagement carousel included four photographs from the occasion. In one, Russell kissed Montero Mundt as she held up her left hand to display the ring. Another showed the couple beside a candlelit dinner table under the evening sky.
Motorsport.com described the setting as an intimate beachside dinner. The photographs show a prominent yellow center stone, but estimates of its size and value circulating online have not been confirmed by Russell or Montero Mundt.
They Met Through a Mutual Friend in 2020

Russell and Montero Mundt began dating in early 2020 after meeting through a mutual friend in London. People’s profile of Montero Mundt says she first posted a photograph with Russell on Instagram in September of that year.
Born in Spain, Montero Mundt moved to the United Kingdom at 18 and studied business management and finance at the University of Westminster. She later worked in investor relations and has regularly joined Russell at Formula One races and other public events.
Russell has previously credited her with supporting him through the pressures of his racing career. Montero Mundt has similarly said there is “nothing I enjoy more than G’s success.”
Russell Said in June That She Was ‘Without Doubt’ His Future
Russell had already spoken publicly about marrying Montero Mundt before proposing. In a June interview with The Times, quoted by Motorsport.com, he said she helped bring stability to his life away from Formula One.
“Carmen brings me stability when it comes to racing and also a way to disconnect,” Russell said. He then made his long-term intentions explicit. “Without doubt she’s my future,” Russell said. “It won’t be next week, but it won’t be longer than five years. So somewhere in that timeframe.”
Russell’s F1 Rivals and Teams Congratulated the Couple
The announcement quickly drew responses from across the Formula One paddock. Russell’s Mercedes teammate Kimi Antonelli wrote, “Congratulations to you both, mate.”
Pierre Gasly also congratulated the couple, while Mercedes, Williams and Formula One’s official account were among those responding publicly to the announcement. Lily Muni He, the fiancée of Williams driver Alex Albon, also joined the congratulations.
