Glen Powell spent months letting photographs do most of the talking about Michelle Randolph. He has now given the relationship a description of his own: “very serious.”
The 37 year old actor was greeting fans and signing autographs in New York City on September 3 when a TMZ cameraperson asked whether making his relationship with the Landman actress public on Instagram had been nerve wracking. “Nah, it’s not,” Powell replied. “It’s never nerve wracking if you believe in it,” according to TMZ.
The reporter then asked whether the relationship was serious enough that an engagement could happen within the next year. Powell did not announce a proposal or offer a timeline. “I’d say it’s very serious,” he answered before continuing to greet the people around him.
It is the most direct public description Powell has given of the romance since he and Randolph were first linked in late 2025. By the time he made that comment, the pair had already been photographed holding hands and kissing, appeared together at several events and confirmed the relationship on Powell’s Instagram in July.
Powell Says Going Public Wasn’t Nerve Wracking
Powell’s brief New York exchange was unusually direct compared with the way he and Randolph had previously handled questions about their relationship. Asked whether putting the romance on Instagram had made him nervous, Powell connected his comfort with going public to his confidence in the relationship itself.
The engagement question went further than Powell did. TMZ asked whether an engagement might happen within the next year, but his answer confirmed only that he considers the relationship “very serious.” He gave no indication that a proposal is planned and offered no details suggesting that an engagement announcement is imminent.
Entertainment Weekly also characterized Powell’s comments as a rare public acknowledgment of the romance. Until now, the couple had allowed appearances, photographs and social media posts to establish most of what was publicly known without spending much time discussing the relationship in interviews.

Powell made the relationship unmistakable on July 7 when his Fourth of July Instagram carousel included a black and white photograph of him kissing Randolph. He captioned the collection “Hell of a Fourth,” and Randolph appeared elsewhere in the post as the group spent the holiday swimming, playing games and spending time outdoors.
The celebration also included friends and relatives from their wider circle. Randolph’s sister Cassie and her husband Brighton Reinhardt appeared among the guests, while members of Powell’s family were also part of the weekend. Randolph liked the post from her own account.
The Instagram post confirmed something the couple had already stopped trying very hard to hide. In June, photographers captured Powell and Randolph holding hands, embracing and kissing during a daytime outing in New York City, several months after they had first been seen together publicly.
The Relationship Had Been Building in Public Since Late 2025
Powell and Randolph first attracted dating speculation in November 2025 after they were seen dancing closely together in Austin, Texas. Powell’s mother, Cyndy, was also present during the outing, and the pair continued appearing together over the months that followed without publicly defining what was happening between them.
By March, Powell and Randolph were photographed holding hands during a walk through Manhattan. The June kissing photographs made the romantic nature of the relationship considerably harder to question, and the July Instagram post effectively removed the remaining ambiguity.
Their public affection continued after going social media official. On August 10, photographers saw the couple walking hand in hand through Paris before they stopped and kissed, another indication that the pair were no longer treating their relationship as something that needed to remain out of sight.
Powell Once Said His Life Would Require a ‘Very Specific’ Partner
Powell’s new confidence stands out against the way he described dating during a 2024 CBS Mornings interview with Gayle King. At the time, he said his career was moving so quickly that he was unsure whether he could bring somebody into his life “in a healthy way,” even though he wanted marriage and children eventually.
He said he was not actively chasing love but would welcome it if it arrived. Powell also acknowledged that his career and schedule would require “a very specific type of person” who could navigate the unusual pressures surrounding his work without feeling unseen or pushed aside.
Randolph has been more guarded about discussing her private life. In a February 2026 Bustle interview, she called Powell a “wonderful actor” when asked about him professionally but declined to turn the conversation into a discussion of their romance. “I think my personal life is so separate than my work life,” she said, explaining that maintaining that separation was difficult but important to her.
Seven months later, Powell has offered the clearest description either actor has given publicly. He is not announcing an engagement, but he is no longer leaving people to interpret photographs either: as far as Powell is concerned, the relationship is “very serious.”
