Greg James’ Taylor Swift wedding invite has gone from a throwaway radio joke to a full post-wedding saga.
The BBC Radio 1 host attended Swift and Travis Kelce’s Madison Square Garden wedding in New York City after the singer publicly invited him during an interview last year. Now, the Daily Mail reports that James kept the bit going after the ceremony, poking fun at Leonardo DiCaprio’s absence and missing Radio 1 Breakfast as his “completely insane” New York weekend continued.
The Sun reported that James told followers he was dealing with the “world’s greatest hangover” after attending the star-heavy wedding with his wife, author Bella Mackie.
Swift joked in 2025 that she was not planning to keep the guest list small, and James ended up becoming proof that she meant it.
“That’s Showbiz, Leo!”
The Daily Mail reported that James stayed in New York after Swift and Kelce’s wedding weekend and missed his usual Radio 1 Breakfast slot. The same report said he joked about Leonardo DiCaprio not attending the wedding.
After seeing DiCaprio at a World Cup match during the same weekend, James joked on social media that it felt “particularly good” to have made the wedding guest list when DiCaprio had not, adding, “That’s showbiz, Leo!”
Swift’s On-Air Invite Actually Turned Into a Real Wedding Seat
Swift invited James during a BBC Radio 1 interview in October 2025 while promoting The Life of a Showgirl. Page Six reported at the time that James joked about wanting to meet Kelce, prompting Swift to turn the conversation into a surprise wedding invitation.
The Sun reported that James later told followers the invitation had arrived and that he had not been allowed to tell anyone.
PEOPLE reported that Swift said on The Graham Norton Show that small weddings were stressful because they forced couples to decide who was “on the bubble,” adding that she was not going to do that.

After the wedding, James gave fans the update they had been waiting for. The Sun reported that he posted that he was experiencing the “world’s greatest hangover” and could not reply to the number of messages he had received over the previous 24 hours.
He also confirmed that Swift had kept her word. According to The Sun, James wrote that the invitation arrived, that he could not tell anyone, and that the night had been “unbelievably brilliant.”

Reuters reported that Swift and Kelce exchanged vows inside an intimate garden built inside Madison Square Garden, with no official wedding photos released by the couple.
PEOPLE reported that attendees described the wedding as emotional, intimate and personal despite the huge venue and roughly 1,000-person guest list.
Other guests gave the weekend its more dramatic celebrity scale. PEOPLE reported that director Joseph Kahn described the room as feeling “like living in the internet,” while guests including Kelsea Ballerini, Niecy Nash-Betts and Maren Morris shared their own afterglow from the event.
