Prince Harry’s account of Meghan Markle’s first visit to Princess Diana’s grave is back in circulation as the Sussexes prepare for a possible family trip to the U.K.

The Duke and Duchess of Sussex are expected to bring Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet to Britain in July, when Harry is set to support events tied to the one-year countdown to the 2027 Invictus Games in Birmingham.

People reported that the trip may include a private visit to Althorp House, Princess Diana’s childhood home and final resting place. The estate’s public opening calendar says Althorp will be closed to visitors on July 10 and 11.

That possibility has renewed interest in a passage from Harry’s memoir Spare, where he described taking Meghan to Diana’s grave in 2022 and later asking what she had prayed for there.

Harry wrote in Spare that he and Meghan visited Althorp on the 25th anniversary of Diana’s death. He described rowing to the island where his mother is buried, placing flowers at the grave and then giving Meghan a private moment there.

When he returned, Harry said Meghan was kneeling with her eyes closed and her palms on the stone. Later, as they walked back to the boat, he asked what she had prayed for.

“Clarity,” she told him, according to Harry’s account. “And guidance.” Us Weekly previously reported the same passage after Spare was released in 2023, noting that the visit was Meghan’s first time at Diana’s grave.

People reported that Archie, 7, and Lilibet, 5, are believed to be accompanying Harry and Meghan on the upcoming visit. If they travel, it would be the children’s first time in the U.K. since Queen Elizabeth’s Platinum Jubilee in June 2022.

The official Althorp website lists the estate’s 2026 summer house opening from July 1 through August 31, with closures on July 10 and 11. People reported that those dates have prompted speculation about a possible private Sussex family visit.

Diana is buried on an island at the center of the Round Oval lake in Althorp Park’s Pleasure Garden. People noted that the gravesite itself is not open to the public.

The Visit Would Be Tied to Invictus Games Events

The Invictus Games Foundation says Birmingham will host the 2027 Games in July 2027, bringing the event back to the U.K. for the first time since the inaugural London Games in 2014.

People reported that Harry is expected to support one-year countdown events for Birmingham 2027 during the July trip. The official Birmingham 2027 site says the Games will run from July 10 to July 17, 2027.

Harry and Meghan last brought Archie and Lilibet to Britain for Queen Elizabeth’s Platinum Jubilee in 2022. The children did not take part in public events, but the family celebrated Lilibet’s first birthday at Frogmore Cottage during that visit.

Accommodation and Security Questions Remain Unresolved

People reported that King Charles has offered Harry and his family accommodation on a royal estate, though no response had been received at the time of that report.

The outlet also reported that no additional security arrangements had been offered with the accommodation. Protective security decisions are handled by the Home Office, not the monarch.

Harry has said he wants his children to feel connected to the U.K., but has also argued that he cannot bring them safely without proper protection. People reported that there is no confirmed plan for Harry to reunite with Charles during the July visit.
