Sarah Paulson has a new house in Los Angeles that she has yet to move into, Holland Taylor says. In the meantime, she has been staying at Taylor’s home for almost a year.
Taylor, 83, discussed their living arrangements during an October 20 appearance on “The Drew Barrymore Show,” covered by Entertainment Weekly. “We do as much time as we possibly can, because work takes us apart constantly,” she said.
In New York, Taylor has an apartment where Paulson also stays. When their schedules bring both actresses to the city, they share that space. Taylor did not announce a date for Paulson’s move into the Los Angeles property.
Paulson, 51, also sent Barrymore a recorded question about her partner’s first impression of her. The actresses have been together since 2015.
Taylor Discovered Another Side of the Hollywood “Dazzler” She First Met
The two first met at a party in 2005. Recalling their casual encounters around Hollywood, Taylor described Paulson as “the most youthful Hollywood dazzling dazzler that you could possibly imagine,” according to the show’s official interview transcript.
Taylor spoke about Paulson’s serious approach to the people in her life, calling her “the most artful friend of anyone I’ve ever known.”
Paulson maintains several close friendships that require time, attention and effort, Taylor said. That includes doing things for friends, being present with them and showing up for the occasions that matter to them.
Paulson Likes Having Her Own Home and Sharing Taylor’s Bed
Paulson described their arrangement during a May 2024 appearance on “SmartLess”, with Jason Bateman, Sean Hayes and Will Arnett. She credited maintaining separate homes with helping their relationship last.
“We’re together when we wanna be and we’re not when we don’t,” she said.
Hayes suggested they could share a home and use separate bedrooms. Paulson rejected that compromise, explaining that going to sleep beside Taylor was one of her favorite parts of being together. The two even fall asleep holding hands.
She joked that it was the daytime hours when she could manage some separation.
Paulson described Taylor as her third partner in a relationship lasting more than five years. Taylor had less experience with long-term relationships and cohabitation, so Paulson thought bringing all her belongings and habits into her partner’s home could have been a considerable adjustment.
Paulson also enjoyed telling Taylor about experiences from her work trips that her partner hadn’t shared.
Why Taylor and Paulson Are Reluctant to Act Together
Taylor also addressed the possibility of working with Paulson during an October 13 appearance on “Today.” Asked by Craig Melvin about a potential screen partnership, she said the couple had recently discussed a particular project, according to People.
Neither actress was enthusiastic. Taylor recalled describing the idea as “creepy” and getting a similar response from Paulson. She declined to identify the project when the hosts asked.
She explained the concern further on the October 16 episode of SiriusXM’s “Bevelations,” hosted by Bevy Smith. As Us Weekly reported, Taylor worried that audiences would focus on their real relationship and wonder why they were a couple instead of following the characters they were playing.
Paulson Has Found Other Ways to Support Taylor’s Work
At the 2024 Emmy Awards, Paulson gave a practical demonstration of her support. Taylor was nominated for her performance in “The Morning Show,” and Paulson carried a portable fan to help keep her cool.
Taylor plays Ma Mac, Matthew McConaughey’s mother, in Apple TV’s “Brothers”. Paulson plays Aileen Wuornos in Netflix’s “Monster: The Lizzie Borden Story”.
Paulson joined Taylor at the September 17 Los Angeles premiere of “Brothers,” where the two posed together at the Hammer Museum.
