Jake Reiner has married Maria Gilfillan, reaching a milestone he had already written about with painful clarity months before the wedding became public.
Reiner and Gilfillan tied the knot in a small ceremony in early August, PEOPLE confirmed on Aug. 31 after TMZ first reported the marriage. The couple has not publicly disclosed the exact date, location, guest list or other details from the ceremony.
There had been one visible clue before the news broke. During Reiner’s Aug. 27 sit-down interview with ABC7 Los Angeles, he appeared to be wearing a gold band on his left ring finger. The interview focused on his life since the deaths of his parents.
The wedding carries a direct connection to something Reiner wrote on April 24 while reflecting on the future he had expected to share with Rob and Michele Reiner. “My parents won’t be at my wedding,” he wrote, before later naming Maria as the person he believed was right for him and expressing gratitude that she had known and loved both of them.
The Ceremony Took Place in Early August
TMZ, citing sources with direct knowledge, reported that Reiner and Gilfillan married in a small ceremony at the beginning of August. Beyond that, the details remain private.
The marriage came nearly eight months after Rob and Michele were killed at their Brentwood home on Dec. 14, 2025. Jake’s younger brother Nick Reiner has since been indicted on two counts of murder with special-circumstance allegations and has pleaded not guilty. His next pretrial hearing is scheduled for Sept. 15.
Jake Had Already Written About Marrying Maria
The April essay gives the wedding news a connection that predates any public reporting about the ceremony. In “Mom and Dad,” Jake wrote about milestones his parents would no longer be present to see, placing his future wedding alongside the possibility of children and the career he was still trying to build.
Later in the essay, he recalled advice from his father about recognizing patterns in difficult relationships and eventually finding the person who was right for him. Jake then wrote, “I’m proud to say I have found that person in Maria.”
He also said he was grateful that Gilfillan had been able to know and love his parents. By then, she had already appeared publicly with Jake and other members of the Reiner family.

Reiner and Gilfillan kept much of their relationship private, but they were photographed together at the New York premiere of Things Like This on May 8, 2025. Four months later, she joined Jake, Rob, Michele, Romy and Nick Reiner at the Los Angeles premiere of Spinal Tap II: The End Continues at the Egyptian Theatre.
Jake shared a more personal glimpse in October 2025 when the couple attended a friend’s wedding in Las Vegas. His Instagram carousel included photographs of them dressed for the event, including a black-and-white image of the pair kissing on a balcony.
His Wedding Ring Was Visible Before the Marriage Was Confirmed
Jake returned to television in late August for his first sit-down interview since his parents’ deaths, speaking with ABC7’s Marc Cota-Robles about grief, his family and trying to move forward. The gold band visible on his left hand did not become part of the conversation. Four days later, reports of the marriage supplied the context for the ring.
Jake has continued to avoid discussing parts of the criminal case involving his brother in detail. Nick has pleaded not guilty, and the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office says he remains held without bail while prosecutors have not yet decided whether to seek the death penalty.
