JoJo Siwa and Chris Hughes have reached one year together, and Siwa says their next goal is simple: more time in the same place.
The couple marked their first anniversary on May 27 after meeting on Celebrity Big Brother UK. In a new PEOPLE interview, Siwa said she and Hughes have a “very fun little life,” but their long-distance relationship still leaves them trying to turn short visits into longer stretches together.
Siwa is based in the United States, while Hughes lives in the United Kingdom. She told PEOPLE that the distance can be “tough” and “tricky,” but said they have found ways to make it work.
Siwa Said Their Goal Is More Time Together
Siwa said she and Hughes often get days together, while she would love for them to eventually have weeks.
That keeps the update more grounded than a big relationship announcement. Siwa did not frame the next step as an engagement or a move. She talked about the practical part of long-distance dating: finding more time to actually live near each other between jobs, flights, and public schedules.
She also told PEOPLE that she and Hughes are “very, very lucky” to have each other and said she likes not knowing exactly what comes next.
They Celebrated One Year With Personal Posts

The anniversary came with public posts from both sides. PEOPLE reported that Siwa shared a carousel of photos and clips with Hughes, writing that the greatest gift she had ever received came 365 days earlier.
Her caption mentioned the phone calls, plane rides, and memories that have shaped the relationship. Hughes also marked the anniversary on Instagram Stories with a black-and-white vacation photo and a “Happy one year” message.
Their Romance Started on Celebrity Big Brother UK
Siwa and Hughes met while filming Celebrity Big Brother UK in April 2025. Their connection first played out on camera, where they became close before leaving the show as friends.
PEOPLE reported that their relationship became public in June 2025. Siwa has since described Hughes as a steady presence in her life, especially when online attention becomes difficult.
In her latest interview, Siwa said Hughes makes her laugh, distracts her when she is sad, and helps remind her that internet noise is not always worth taking seriously.
Siwa Is Also Marking a Career Milestone
The relationship update arrived during a busy week for Siwa. PEOPLE also reported that she released a 10th anniversary EP for “Boomerang,” the debut single that helped make her a young pop-culture fixture.
Siwa’s summer schedule includes the JoJo Cruise, Fox’s Nation’s Dumbest, Dancing With the Stars Con, and another TV project in the U.K.
That schedule explains why the relationship update centers on time rather than a dramatic new milestone. Siwa and Hughes have made it through one year while living in different countries, and her next goal is getting more than a few days together at once.
