Jon Bon Jovi returned to the stage for his first major tour concert in four years after vocal cord surgery left the future of his live career uncertain.
PEOPLE reported that Bon Jovi opened the band’s Forever Tour at Madison Square Garden in New York City on July 7.
The sold-out show marked a major comeback for the rock icon, who underwent a vocal cord medialization procedure in 2022 and spent years working toward a return to full-scale concerts.

Bon Jovi opened the show with “With a Little Help from My Friends,” using the Beatles lyric as a knowing nod to the bandmates, vocal work and fans who helped carry him through recovery.
PEOPLE reported that the concert began with a pre-recorded message from the band before Bon Jovi took the stage for a set that ran more than two hours.
The band performed 21 songs, mixing newer material with classic hits such as “Livin’ on a Prayer,” “It’s My Life,” “You Give Love a Bad Name,” “Wanted Dead or Alive” and “Bad Medicine.”
The Show Followed Years of Vocal Recovery
Bon Jovi underwent vocal cord surgery in 2022 after dealing with serious vocal issues. The procedure and recovery were later explored in the Hulu docuseries Thank You, Goodnight: The Bon Jovi Story.
For a long stretch, the singer was unsure whether he would be able to return to full touring. He continued vocal therapy and training before declaring himself fully recovered ahead of the 2026 tour.
In a recent PEOPLE cover story, Bon Jovi described the return as “a rebirth” and said the goal was not perfection, but excellence.
The Crowd Got the Comeback Moment And Tour Continues
Ultimate Classic Rock reported that Bon Jovi asked the audience during “Whole Lot of Leavin’” whether the band still had it, and the crowd answered with a roar. He later told the audience he had not heard that sound in four years and did not know whether he would remember what it felt like.
Original members Tico Torres and David Bryan joined Bon Jovi onstage, along with Hugh McDonald, John Shanks, Phil X and Everett Bradley.

The Madison Square Garden show opened the Forever Tour, which includes a nine-night run at the New York venue before the band heads to the United Kingdom and Ireland. Madison Square Garden lists additional Bon Jovi dates on July 9, 12, 14, 16, 19, 21, 23 and 26.
The tour also follows the release of Forever, the band’s 16th studio album, and renewed attention on the group’s history after the Hulu documentary.
