Kim Kardashian says divorcing Kanye West did not end her concern for his well-being. She still worries about him every day while trying to keep the difficulties between them from affecting their children’s relationship with their father.

The 46-year-old reality star discusses that responsibility in Jonathan Van Meter’s authorized biography, Citizen Kim: The Woman Who Created the Future, released October 27. Her account describes the emotional strain alongside the practical arrangements that help them parent separately.

Kardashian and West, 49, married in 2014 and finalized their divorce in 2022. They share daughters North, 13, and Chicago, 8, and sons Saint, 10, and Psalm, 7.

Despite their public disagreements, Kardashian described a period of relatively little conflict when speaking for the book. She said she tries to put hurtful experiences aside, although her therapist has encouraged her to recognize when she needs stronger boundaries.

She Calls the Constant Concern a ‘Big Burden’

“That’s the father of my kids, I’ll never not worry about him,” Kardashian said in the biography, according to Page Six.

She described that concern as a “big burden” of having children with someone she does not necessarily get along with. Kardashian said she wants to prevent the children from feeling caught in those disagreements or believing they need to take sides.

Elsewhere in the book, she reflected on how often she had responded to difficult experiences by pushing them aside. She said her desire to protect West eventually had to be weighed against the effect on her own health and well-being.

Her outlook was not entirely optimistic. Kardashian said she struggled to imagine things improving, even as she continued hoping they would for the children’s sake.

She Communicates Through Bianca Censori or West’s Manager

Kardashian told Van Meter that communication with her former husband goes through his wife, Bianca Censori, or his manager, according to Us Weekly.

She suggested that speaking less often may help explain the calmer arrangement she described. Their in-person encounters can still be affectionate: Kardashian said they generally hug when they see each other.

She also remains close to West’s relatives and encourages them to visit. Her invitations extend to dinners, outings with the children and time spent together at home. She said she considers those connections part of the children’s family life and wants to maintain them.

Kardashian Offered to Leave Her House So West Could Visit

Her invitations to West have included more than a shared meal. Kardashian said she has offered to leave the house so he can have dinner with the children in surroundings where they feel comfortable. She has also suggested that he stay overnight for several days.

One invitation involved Christmas Eve. Kardashian recalled asking West to stay and bring his partner so they could celebrate the holiday together. She told Van Meter she intended to make the offer again.

She described being willing to set aside hurtful things West had said about her to make those visits possible. Her priority, she explained, was allowing the children to spend time with their father.

She Tries to Keep Adult Disagreements Away From the Children

Kardashian said she sometimes explains West’s absence by telling the children he is traveling. She acknowledged that she gives them those explanations because she wants to protect their view of him.

That approach also extends to the news they might encounter. In another passage reported by People, Kardashian described a household instruction she calls a “lockdown” when coverage of their parents becomes difficult.

Television is replaced with movies, and music plays from a phone instead of the radio. She said even satellite radio can present a problem because presenters discuss current events between songs.

West Was Not Interviewed for the Biography

Van Meter’s reporting included extensive access to Kardashian and people close to her. He told CULTURED that she agreed to participate without imposing preconditions, although he allowed her to review the completed manuscript for factual accuracy.

The author also confirmed that he did not interview West. The book’s account of these parenting arrangements therefore comes from Kardashian’s conversations with Van Meter, rather than a joint interview with the former couple.
