Kim Kardashian’s $148 SKIMS advent calendar is facing criticism on TikTok, where unboxing videos have left some viewers questioning whether the holiday release offers enough for its price.
By November 7, one unboxing exceeded 34 million views, Just Jared reported. Other creators have also posted their reactions to the box, expanding the discussion beyond a single video.
The product, sold as the SKIMS Accessories Advent Calendar, contains 12 numbered compartments. It is a limited-edition addition to the clothing and shapewear brand’s holiday collection.
Discussing the calendar with ELLE on October 29, Kardashian said: “I love the excitement of counting down to the holidays, and it’s such a fun way to surprise someone with a new gift every day.”
The Creator’s Excitement Fades as She Opens the Calendar
LADbible identified TikTok creator @wetsloppyswollen as the person behind one widely shared unboxing. According to its account, she initially appeared pleased with her first discovery before becoming increasingly frustrated with the subsequent reveals.
One accessory left her questioning exactly what she had received. “What is this? A bra strap made into a hair tie?” she asked, according to the New York Post.
As she approached the end of the calendar, the creator was hoping the final box would be “made of gold,” LADbible reported.
Viewers Compare the Contents to Junk-Drawer Finds
Just Jared quoted a commenter calling it a “box full of pranks.”
The New York Post highlighted another comment describing the assortment as “Junk drawer chic.” It also quoted an X user who said watching people open their calendars had saved them from spending money on one.
Some viewers questioned the choice of accessories for a company closely associated with underwear and shapewear. Others defended the release by pointing to its accessories label and product description, according to LADbible.
In its November 7 report, LADbible said it had contacted SKIMS and that the brand had not publicly addressed the criticism at the time of publication.
SKIMS Lists the Accessories Included in the Box
The current SKIMS product page identifies what is inside each compartment. Hair accessories account for much of the assortment, including three hair elastics, two packs of satin scrunchies and two packs of bobby pins. Each scrunchie and bobby-pin pack contains three pieces.
Buyers also receive a pair of hair clips and two bra-elastic headbands. The latter is the product’s official description for the accessory that prompted the creator’s bra-strap question.
The remaining compartments contain a bear keychain, a comb keychain, a SKIMS logo keychain, a faux-fur compact mirror keychain and a SKIMS squishy. The published assortment includes no underwear, makeup or skincare products.
As of November 7, the U.S. product page offered a waitlist instead of a standard purchase option.
