Laura Vandervoort is opening up about a painful pregnancy loss in a message meant to make others feel less alone.
People reported that the Smallville actress, 41, shared the news on Instagram on July 8 with a video showing sonogram images and four positive pregnancy tests.
Just Jared reported that Vandervoort addressed the post directly to the baby she lost.
Vandervoort described miscarriage as a real loss, even when the life being mourned was known only to a few people.

Vandervoort wrote that it had been “2 months and nine days” since the loss and that the grief still hurt. She described miscarriage as “a death that has no funeral,” pointing to the private nature of a loss that may not be visible to the outside world.
The actress said she and her husband, Adam Coates, had already heard the baby’s heartbeat twice. She also wrote about the plans, nursery ideas, hope, fear and love that had already begun to build before the pregnancy ended.
Vandervoort wrote that every week reminds her how far along she would have been, and that pregnancy announcements and seeing pregnant women can still bring back the future she had imagined.
She Shared the Painful Details of the Emergency Room Visit
Vandervoort said the emergency room visit became even more traumatizing because of how the news was delivered. People reported that she wrote a doctor told them the baby’s heart had stopped “in front of an entire waiting room of people.” She said life continues afterward in ordinary ways, even when something life-changing has happened.
Vandervoort ended her post by encouraging more open conversations about pregnancy loss. People reported that she said she felt “very alone” at the time, even though miscarriage is “incredibly common.”
The post comes less than a year after Vandervoort married Coates. People previously reported that the couple wed in September 2025 at Langdon Hall Country House, Hotel & Spa in Canada.
