McDonald’s has given Hello Kitty and her friends monster-sized makeovers for a new Happy Meal crossover with Godzilla.
The limited-time promotion arrives Aug. 18 at participating restaurants nationwide and pairs eight familiar Sanrio characters with creatures from Toho’s long-running Godzilla franchise.
Each Happy Meal comes with one of eight exclusive collectible toys, with Hello Kitty dressed as Godzilla and Kuromi transformed into Mechagodzilla among the headliners. My Melody takes on Mothra’s wings, while Keroppi gets the considerably more intimidating job of becoming the three-headed King Ghidorah.
The food itself follows McDonald’s existing Happy Meal lineup. Customers can choose a Hamburger Happy Meal or four- or six-piece Chicken McNuggets Happy Meal, with kids fries, apple slices, a drink and a toy among the standard components listed on the chain’s current Happy Meal menu.
The Collection Includes Eight Sanrio-and-Kaiju Mashups

McDonald’s has gone well beyond putting a Godzilla hat on Hello Kitty. The complete collection pairs eight Sanrio characters with monsters from different eras of the Godzilla franchise. TODAY detailed the complete eight-toy lineup ahead of the U.S. release.
The designs keep the recognizable Sanrio characters at their center while adding features associated with the monsters they represent. Hello Kitty, for example, keeps her familiar bow and face while emerging from a Godzilla headpiece, and Keroppi is surrounded by King Ghidorah’s three dragon heads.
McDonald’s revealed the collection on social media on Aug. 12 with the line “cosplaying right into our hearts.” An earlier teaser had shown Hello Kitty wearing Godzilla gear as a Happy Meal rose dramatically from the ocean beneath the tagline “Cute meets Kaiju.”
Each Happy Meal Comes With One of the Eight Toys

McDonald’s says each Hello Kitty & Friends x Godzilla Happy Meal includes one of the eight exclusive collectible toys. The promotion is available at participating U.S. restaurants nationwide for a limited time. Toy assortments and remaining inventory can vary by restaurant during Happy Meal promotions.
For anyone trying to collect the full set, the lineup spans some of Godzilla’s best-known allies and enemies rather than sticking only to monsters casual moviegoers are likely to recognize. Godzilla, Mothra, King Ghidorah and Mechagodzilla share the collection with Rodan, Gigan, SpaceGodzilla and Destoroyah.
Hello Kitty Has Done This Kind of Crossover Before
The monster transformation is unusual, but putting Sanrio characters inside another franchise’s world is becoming familiar territory for McDonald’s.
In August 2025, the chain launched a Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles x Hello Kitty and Friends Happy Meal in the U.S. That collection contained 12 figurines combining characters from the two franchises, including mashups involving Cinnamoroll, Kuromi and the Turtles.
The Godzilla promotion takes the same crossover idea in a very different direction, it dresses Sanrio’s characters as giant monsters that have spent decades leveling cities on movie screens.
The release also continues a busy run of licensed Happy Meal collections in 2026. McDonald’s launched a Super Mario Galaxy Movie promotion in March and followed it with a BT21 Happy Meal in July featuring 10 character toys.
