Michael B. Jordan responded personally to an Oklahoma grandmother who placed his photograph among her family portraits and began introducing him as one of her grandsons.
The actor surprised 89-year-old Mary Story with a FaceTime call after her granddaughter’s video of the unusual family display attracted approximately 1.7 million views.
Before speaking with Story, Jordan arranged for her to receive a David Yurman necklace and bracelet featuring amethyst, her February birthstone.
What began as a joke inside the Tulsa family’s home developed into a direct exchange, with Story inviting her newly adopted grandson to attend a future family gathering.
Story Found Jordan’s Photograph in a Magazine

Story discovered Jordan’s photograph in a magazine delivered to her home. She liked the image too much to throw it away, so she framed it and placed it alongside photographs of her children and grandchildren.
When relatives questioned why the actor had appeared on the family wall, Story explained that he could be another one of her grandsons. Her granddaughter, Natalie Sims, recorded the conversation and shared it online. The video quickly spread beyond the family’s home.
Jordan’s portrait remained prominently displayed among photographs of Story’s extended family, civil rights leaders and former President Barack Obama.
Jordan’s Team Contacted the Family Within Days
Sims said Jordan’s representatives contacted the family approximately two days after the video went viral. “The video went viral in probably 24 hours,” she said, according to PEOPLE. Jordan was outside the United States on a promotional trip, but his team told Sims that he had watched the clip and intended to respond.
Before arranging the FaceTime call, Jordan sent Story a David Yurman necklace and bracelet decorated with amethyst stones. Story’s birthday is February 3rd, six days before Jordan’s February 9th birthday. “My God, I don’t believe this,” she said while opening the package.

“Why hello, Michael,” Story said when Jordan appeared on the video call. “This is your granny.” “I see,” Jordan replied. He thanked Story for the affection she had shown him and for giving his photograph a place in her family collection.
“Thank you so much for all the love you’ve been showing,” he said. “You’ve got a beautiful family. Thanks for including me in the collage, in the family pictures.” Story turned the phone toward the wall so Jordan could see exactly where his framed portrait had been placed.
“I got a good little place right there,” he said. Story’s daughter then joined the call and thanked Jordan for taking the time to respond personally to her mother.
The Family Invited Jordan to Visit Tulsa
Jordan praised the three generations of women participating in the call and acknowledged their connection to Tulsa. “I just love seeing three generations of beautiful Black women,” he said. “This is great. Y’all are amazing. So much strength, especially from Tulsa.”
Jordan said he had never visited the Oklahoma city, prompting Sims and her family to invite him to a future gathering. “Michael, your generosity and care is not lost on us,” Sims later wrote. “You are family now.”
Jordan stopped short of making a firm commitment but left open the possibility of meeting his new relatives in person. “I might just surprise y’all,” he said. “I’ma pull up.”
