Mollie King says a frightening early-morning collapse is the reason she has been missing from BBC Radio 1.
The former Saturdays singer and Radio 1 presenter told fans that she was rushed to A&E after suddenly collapsing at home in the early hours of the morning. King shared the update in an Instagram statement after listeners had been asking why she had been absent from her show with Matt Edmondson.
“After coming home late from work, I suddenly collapsed unconscious on the bathroom floor at 4am, hitting my head and face as I fell,” King wrote.
The 38-year-old said the fall was a “huge shock” and left her needing emergency treatment.

King Said Stuart Broad Was There When She Fell
King said she has kept thinking about how different the incident might have been if she had been alone.
She credited her partner, former England cricketer Stuart Broad, with bringing her round after the fall.
“I keep thinking how grateful I am that I wasn’t on my own and had Stuart to bring me round after I fell,” she wrote.
King also thanked Amy and Hannah at St George’s Hospital for treating her injuries and “stitching me up so well.” She kept one detail light in the middle of the scare, joking that staff even managed to look past the Looney Tunes pyjama top she arrived in.
The Collapse Explained Her Radio 1 Absence
King’s post gave listeners the explanation behind her recent absence from Radio 1. She currently hosts Matt and Mollie with Edmondson, and fans had been checking in after noticing she was not on air.
The presenter said the incident had become a “wake-up call” about making time to regain her strength.
“It’s been a real wake-up call that I need to make some time to get my strength back, not just for my own health, but so I can be the best version of myself for my family too,” she wrote.
King and Broad share two daughters, Annabella and Liliana. In the same update, King said she had recently managed her first social outing after what felt like “a very long two weeks,” sharing that she spent time with her girls and saw Broad appear on a big screen.
She Said She Is Ready to Return to Radio
King ended the update by thanking fans for checking in and for sending birthday messages.
“Your kindness has meant so much,” she wrote. “I can’t wait to be back on the radio with Matt today.”
Edmondson responded to the post by writing, “We’ve missed you.” Several of King’s friends and former Saturdays bandmates also shared support, including Rochelle Humes and Una Healy.
The A&E visit follows other recent health interruptions for King. In March, she pulled out of a planned Sunday Brunch appearance after saying she had hurt her neck and had been advised by a physio to rest.
King had been due to appear on the Channel 4 show with Edmondson to discuss their podcast Novel Idea. She later said she was disappointed to miss the appearance but had been told to stay home and recover.
She also took time away from Radio 1 in 2025 after an operation, though she did not publicly share details of that procedure.
