Natasha Lyonne is rejecting suggestions that she supports Donald Trump’s MAGA movement after her social media posts prompted questions about a change in her politics.
The 47-year-old actress became the subject of an argument on X on Tuesday, October 20. Some followers took her messages as support for the president, while others insisted she was being sarcastic.
The Poker Face and Russian Doll star had commented on Vice President JD Vance and a separate Trump message praising Elon Musk, according to TV Insider.
In a separate October 21 post, she used the phrase “a butt dial of a tweet.”

On Wednesday, October 21, she answered an X user who had asked whether she had become a MAGA supporter or whether her posts had been misunderstood.
She had also responded the previous day to a post defending her comments as sarcasm. That response included a photograph of her wearing a “Make America Gay Again” hat and the matching hashtag, according to The Tab.
She apologized and explained that she had viewed the messages as “just murmurs into the ether” and “didn’t realize it was a whole thing.”
Her ‘Prefer Trump’ Comment Was About JD Vance
Sketchy mofo – prefer trump – this shit is even scarier – don’t really know how we arrived at this aesthetic as baseline normal, but c’est la dominoes, etc. Octavia Butler was a soothsayer. Grimey times.

The footage Lyonne shared came from Vance’s October 19 rally in Hendersonville, North Carolina. A protester interrupted his speech with demands to release records related to Jeffrey Epstein.
Security escorted the man away. Vance responded with a joke implying that the protester had entered the United States illegally, according to WBTV. He suggested that he would have to revise an earlier claim about there being no illegal border crossings.
In the exchange, Vance did not address the demand for the files. He continued criticizing Democrats and argued that the American government should serve American citizens.
When a follower challenged the comparison, she replied, “To insert Manchurian Candidate here?” The phrase comes from the novel and film adaptations about political manipulation and brainwashing.
She Deleted Her Emoji Response to Trump’s Elon Musk Post
Separately, Lyonne reacted to an October 19 message in which Trump thanked Musk for a proposed gift of SpaceX stock to American children. The president described the plan as part of Trump Accounts, the investment initiative bearing his name.
Her response contained a rocket, a saluting face, the sun and a face wearing sunglasses, without an accompanying explanation. She subsequently deleted it, according to Us Weekly.
Musk had pledged to give one SpaceX share to every child in America in 2027, Reuters reported. SpaceX had not answered the outlet’s questions about whether those gifts would be linked to Trump Accounts or come with restrictions on when recipients could sell their shares.
Lyonne Has Previously Spoken Against Trump and Defended LGBTQ Rights
In an August 2016 interview with NYLON, Lyonne addressed the magazine’s young readers about the presidential election.
“Kids, don’t vote for Trump! But do register so that you don’t vote for him,” she said.
She also discussed LGBTQ rights with Glamour in May 2025 while promoting the second season of Poker Face. The interviewer asked what her connection to queer audiences meant to her with Trump in power and transgender rights under scrutiny.
Lyonne said that “everybody in this life is entitled to equal rights and the dignity of their experience.” She criticized racism and inequality and opposed attempts to control women’s reproductive choices.
