Jon Gosselin and his children Collin and Hannah are taking part in a new Netflix documentary about the family behind Jon & Kate Plus 8.
His ex-wife, Kate Gosselin, has not been named among the interviewees. The participation of their six other children is also unconfirmed, as Entertainment Weekly reported.
Netflix announced the project on October 21 and confirmed that filming is underway. It has not released an official title or premiere date.
The announcement included a family photograph and a behind-the-scenes image of Collin seated for an interview, with cameras and other production equipment arranged around him.
Netflix Will Explore Conflicting Memories of the Same Childhood
The film will examine how family members remember the years captured on television and what happened afterward. Netflix says its scope includes the children’s experiences, the adults who built a business around the family and the public fascination that sustained their fame.
Mike Gasparro and Julia Willoughby Nason are producing the documentary for The Cinemart. Their previous projects include American Murder: Gabby Petito and Death of the Pastor’s Wife.
Collin’s Memoir Renewed the Dispute Over His Childhood
Collin published In the Shadow of Eight: Surviving the Reality of My Childhood on October 13 through Grand Central Publishing.
He alleges that Kate physically and emotionally abused him and isolated him from his siblings. In an October 12 interview with ABC News, he said she placed him in a behavioral health facility shortly before his 12th birthday.
Kate previously denied abuse allegations in a 2016 ABC interview and said she had sought treatment for his educational and social challenges. More recently, she referred to mental illness in TikTok replies to supporters during the memoir’s release.
In an October 15 statement to Us Weekly, Jon said he was proud of his son for sharing his story and trying to help other abuse survivors. He also challenged claims about Collin’s mental health and warned those making them that they would be held accountable.
From Twins and Sextuplets to Separate Households
The couple’s children include twins Mady and Cara, 26, and sextuplets Alexis, Hannah, Aaden, Collin, Leah and Joel, 22.
The family appeared in television specials before Jon & Kate Plus 8 premiered in 2007. The series began on Discovery Health before moving to TLC, according to Time. Cameras followed school mornings, family trips and celebrations.
The couple announced their separation during a June 2009 episode. After their divorce, the program continued as Kate Plus 8, with Kate and the children at its center.
Collin moved in with Jon and Hannah in 2018 after leaving residential treatment. In his recent ABC interview, he said he would like to reconnect with his six other siblings, while acknowledging that those relationships would not be the same as before.
Collin and Hannah Reflect on Growing Up on Camera
In an October 14 interview, Collin acknowledged that television had given his family income and opportunities. But he believed his parents should have stopped after their early documentary specials.
“My parents should’ve done better to understand that kids should have a choice,” he told Us Weekly.
In a May 2025 Teen Vogue interview, Hannah recalled wanting privacy as a teenager and finding footage of her parents’ arguments difficult to watch.
“[Filming] made my siblings and I closer to each other, even though it made my parents further from each other,” she said.
She also valued having childhood memories recorded. When she misses her siblings, she said, she watches clips of the show. Despite the strains, she would choose to do it again.
