Olivia Rodrigo has seen plenty of intense fan behavior from the stage, but one front-row habit has stayed with her for a very specific reason.

Entertainment Weekly reported that Rodrigo discussed fans wearing diapers during a recent U.K. radio interview, saying some concertgoers do it so they can keep their spots close to the stage.

The Grammy winner said the practice is not just something she has heard about from other performers. She said she has experienced it herself.

“That’s been an experience of a performer that I have smelled and experienced,” Rodrigo said.

Rodrigo Said the Diaper Practice Is “A Real Thing”

Rodrigo said she has been to concerts and festivals where people wear diapers to avoid leaving the front row. Entertainment Weekly reported that she compared the practice to people waiting all day for New Year’s Eve events in Times Square.

“It’s also like with the ball drop in New York for New Year’s Eve, everyone is wearing diapers — they sit there all day,” Rodrigo said. “That’s a thing. I think about it kind of often. It’s a real thing.”

People reported that Rodrigo made the comments while promoting her new album, You Seem Pretty Sad for a Girl So in Love.

Entertainment Weekly noted that Rodrigo had addressed the topic from the stage during a 2025 performance at BST Hyde Park in London.

In fan-captured footage from that show, Rodrigo read a sign that said, “Wearing diapers for front row,” then asked the fans if it was true.

At the time, Rodrigo appeared surprised and thanked the fans for their dedication. Her newer interview made the backstage reality clearer: from a performer’s side of the stage, that level of commitment can come with a smell.

The Comment Came During Her New Album Rollout

Rodrigo’s official store lists You Seem Pretty Sad for a Girl So in Love as her third studio album, released June 12.

The album tracklist includes “Drop Dead,” “The Cure” and “What’s Wrong with Me.” People reported that “What’s Wrong with Me” features Robert Smith of The Cure.

People reported that she said she is about 60 percent deaf in her left ear and joked that anyone who wants to tell her a secret should speak into her right ear.

The Unraveled Tour Starts in September

Rodrigo is preparing to support the album with The Unraveled Tour.

Entertainment Weekly reported that the tour is scheduled to begin in September and run across North America and Europe before ending in London in May 2027.
