Prince Harry’s return to Britain has not brought a matching change in how he views the Royal Family, according to people described as his friends in a new report.
The Daily Mail quoted one unnamed source as saying Harry remains angry with some relatives and the “men in grey suits” around King Charles. The same report claimed the Duke of Sussex still expects an apology.
The claims arrive days after Harry, 41, and Meghan Markle, 45, landed in Birmingham with Prince Archie, 7, and Princess Lilibet, 5. PEOPLE confirmed that the family is establishing a private British base and that the children are expected to begin school in the country in September.
The move does not restore Harry and Meghan to working royal status. They are expected to keep their Montecito home and their property in Portugal while spending an extended period in Britain.
Harry Said He Wanted Reconciliation in 2025
Harry publicly spoke about reconciliation after losing his legal challenge over his U.K. security arrangements in May 2025.
“I would love reconciliation with my family,” he said in a BBC interview. “There’s no point in continuing to fight anymore.”
Harry said at the time that his father was not speaking to him because of the security dispute. He also said he had forgiven much of what had happened with his family, but described the police-protection issue as the remaining sticking point, according to Reuters.
His desire for an apology had already been public. In a 2023 interview around Spare, Harry said he wanted accountability and “an apology to my wife.”
Friends Say Harry Has Not Changed His Position
The Daily Mail’s source claimed that friends who had spoken to Harry since his return were surprised that “the record has not changed one bit since 2020 and Megxit.”
One source characterized Harry as “spitting blood” at certain members of the Royal Family. The outlet also reported that he does not intend to issue a public apology for his own statements and actions since leaving royal duties.
The report did not identify the relatives Harry is reportedly angry with or specify the exact action for which he currently expects an apology. Harry and Meghan’s representatives have not publicly confirmed the friends’ account.
The U.K. Return Does Not Restore Their Royal Roles
Harry and Meghan remain private, non-working members of the Royal Family. PEOPLE reported that Charles has made clear there will be no change to the arrangement established when the couple stepped back from official duties in 2020.
The family’s new British base is expected to be outside London, but its location and the children’s school have not been disclosed. The move will place Harry closer to U.K.-based organizations including WellChild, Scotty’s Little Soldiers and the Invictus Games, while Meghan continues work connected to As Ever and other projects.
Harry and Meghan are also keeping their home in Montecito and their vacation property in Portugal, according to reporting on the move.
Charles Met the Sussex Family Privately in July
Charles met Harry, Meghan, Archie and Lilibet privately at Highgrove in July. No photographs were released, and the palace did not disclose what was discussed during the family meeting.
PEOPLE reported that Charles welcomes more private time with Harry’s family. Harry’s relationship with Prince William remains distant, however, with a source telling the magazine in July that there had been “no movement” and no contact between the brothers.
The latest report leaves the public picture largely where it was before the move: Harry is physically closer to Britain again, but the family rift has not been publicly resolved.
