Quentin Tarantino has not announced the movie he plans to direct as his 10th and final film, but he has lined up a new on-screen role.

The Oscar-winning filmmaker is set to star in Tangled Up in Blue, a new film from writer-director Jamie Adams. Entertainment Weekly reported that Tarantino will headline the project alongside Kylie Minogue, Allison Williams, Jason Isaacs, Sofia Boutella and RZA.

The movie is currently in production in Wales, where Tarantino and Minogue have already been spotted filming.

The project follows Tarantino’s smaller role in Adams’ Only What We Carry, which premiered at the Tribeca Festival earlier this month.

Entertainment Weekly reported that Tarantino will play Jake Stroud, a man who has spent 40 years managing legends. The character becomes stranded in a hotel bar between an old flame and a lost soul, forcing him to face the emotional life he has spent years avoiding.

The role gives Tarantino a larger acting part than his usual screen appearances. He has appeared in his own films before, including Reservoir Dogs and Pulp Fiction, and had one of his biggest acting roles in From Dusk Till Dawn, which he wrote and Robert Rodriguez directed.

He had mostly moved away from acting in recent years before appearing in Adams’ Only What We Carry. The Guardian reported that Tarantino played a wealthy benefactor in that film, an improvisational drama shot on the Normandy coast with Charlotte Gainsbourg and Simon Pegg.

The Cast Mixes Film, Music and TV Names

Tangled Up in Blue brings together a cast from several corners of entertainment. Minogue joins the project after decades of crossing between pop music and screen work, while Williams, Isaacs and Boutella bring major film and television credits.

RZA, a longtime Tarantino collaborator, is also part of the ensemble and will play himself, according to Entertainment Weekly. The casting fits the film’s music-business setup without making the project a standard backstage biopic.

Welsh actors Karen Paullada, Julian Lewis Jones, Craig Russell and Siwan Morris are also in the film, according to Nation.Cymru.

Filming has taken place in Porthcawl and Cardiff. Nation.Cymru reported that Tarantino and Minogue were seen shooting scenes at Newton Church and the Saltwater Inn in Porthcawl, with members of the Porthcawl Male Choir taking part as extras.

The Guardian reported that the Porthcawl scenes included a funeral scene at the church and a wake scene at the Saltwater Inn. Nation.Cymru later reported that the pair were also photographed at the National Museum Cardiff.

Adams has already worked with Tarantino once this year. Only What We Carry premiered at Tribeca on June 6, and The Guardian reported that Adams first got Tarantino involved by sending him a story outline and letter before the filmmaker’s agent arranged a Zoom call.

His Final Directing Film Is Still Unannounced

Tarantino has long said he plans to stop directing after his 10th movie. His last directed feature was Once Upon a Time in Hollywood, released in 2019.

Entertainment Weekly reported that Tarantino had developed The Adventures of Cliff Booth, a follow-up centered on Brad Pitt’s Once Upon a Time in Hollywood character, before deciding not to direct it. The project later moved forward with David Fincher attached to direct.
