Ryan Reynolds made a surprise appearance during Marvel Studios’ San Diego Comic-Con presentation in a head-to-toe denim Deadpool suit and used the opportunity to pitch himself for a role in Avengers: Doomsday.
The actor emerged from the Hall H audience on July 25 after Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige invited a costumed attendee carrying swords to ask the panel a question. Reynolds kept his mask on and remained in character throughout the exchange.
Introducing himself as a fan named “Ricky,” Reynolds questioned Paul Rudd about an unresolved moment from Deadpool & Wolverine before asking Robert Downey Jr. whether it was too late to join the next Avengers movie.
Marvel has not announced Reynolds as part of the Doomsday cast.

Reynolds wore a gray-blue costume made to resemble denim while retaining Deadpool’s mask, utility belt and crossed swords. He later referred to the look as “Jeanpool” in photographs shared through his Instagram Stories.
“I’m not wearing the Doom mask over this mask because I didn’t want to ruin the lines of my Canadian tuxedo,” Reynolds told the panel, according to Entertainment Weekly.
He introduced himself as “Ricky” and called the name a mononym comparable to Cher or Madonna. Reynolds then described himself as a dedicated cosplayer and longtime fan of the actors seated onstage.
Paul Rudd Answered His Question About Thor
Reynolds directed his first question to Rudd, asking, “Where is Thor and why was he crying?” The line referenced a mysterious scene in Deadpool & Wolverine showing Chris Hemsworth’s Thor holding an injured Wade Wilson.
The footage appeared on a Time Variance Authority monitor, but the movie never explained when or why the moment would occur. Rudd answered that Thor was crying because he supported Wrexham, the Welsh soccer club Reynolds co-owns with Rob McElhenney.
Robert Downey Jr. Told Him the Movie Was Already Finished
Reynolds next asked when filming on Avengers: Doomsday would begin, joking that the Hall H presentation seemed like an expensive way to announce the project.
“It’s in the can, bro,” Downey replied. “Look around you. Did you bump your head?” Reynolds continued searching for a possible route into the movie. “So there’s no additional photography, no overages, high costs, maybe last-minute additions?” he asked.
When the panel did not offer him a place in the cast, Reynolds declared, “No further questions,” and called for Happy Hogan to bring him an Audi.
Deadpool’s ‘Doomsday’ Role Remains Unconfirmed
Reynolds was not included in Marvel’s announced Avengers: Doomsday ensemble. He previously said that he had not stepped onto the movie’s set, although he declined to say more about whether Deadpool could appear through another method.
He has confirmed that he is developing additional material involving Wade Wilson but has resisted describing it as a conventional fourth solo movie. At Fanatics Fest in July, Reynolds said another Deadpool film would eventually arrive.
His most recent appearance as the character came in 2024’s Deadpool & Wolverine, which formally brought Wade and Hugh Jackman’s Wolverine into the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Avengers: Doomsday opens in theaters on December 18, 2026.
