Former NBA player Isaiah Rider is back in custody in Arizona after jail records listed a misdemeanor involving failure to comply with a court order.
Rider was taken into custody Thursday night and booked into the Maricopa County jail Friday morning, according to records reviewed by TMZ Sports.
The records reportedly show a guilty finding and indicate that Rider is expected to remain in custody until Tuesday, July 28.
The latest case follows two December arrests connected to a protective order obtained by his estranged wife, Vanessa Rider. TMZ could not confirm that the new misdemeanor involves that same order.
Rider Was Arrested Twice in December
Vanessa obtained a protective order in July 2025 after alleging that Rider had behaved aggressively toward her and the couple’s teenage son. The order required him to have no contact with them and to remain away from their home and the child’s school.
Gilbert police arrested Rider on December 4 and charged him with interfering with judicial proceedings for allegedly violating the order. Rider later claimed that he did not know the restrictions were in effect because he had not been served with the documents until December.
He was arrested again after failing to attend a December 15 hearing concerning whether the protective order should remain in place. Vanessa attended, and the judge extended the order in Rider’s absence.
Rider Denied the Allegations Behind the Protective Order
Rider denied becoming physically violent with Vanessa or their son. He argued that the protective-order dispute was connected to the divorce case he initiated in November 2024.
Vanessa rejected that explanation and said the order was sought to protect herself and her child. The allegations contained in her application are separate from the latest misdemeanor, whose underlying facts have not been publicly disclosed.
Rider Won the 1994 Slam Dunk Contest
The Minnesota Timberwolves selected Rider with the fifth overall pick in the 1993 NBA Draft. He later played for the Portland Trail Blazers, Atlanta Hawks, Los Angeles Lakers and Denver Nuggets during a nine-season career.
Rider won the 1994 NBA Slam Dunk Contest with the “East Bay Funk Dunk,” a between-the-legs finish that remains one of the event’s best-known performances.
