Sabrina Carpenter has obtained temporary court protection after alleging that a stranger repeatedly appeared at her Los Angeles home and tried to get inside.
The 27-year-old singer filed for a temporary restraining order against 31-year-old William Applegate after a series of alleged incidents that escalated in May. According to court documents reviewed by the Los Angeles Times, Carpenter said Applegate tried to force his way into her home on May 23, was arrested, and then returned to the property on the following two days.
Carpenter described Applegate as a complete stranger and said she fears what he may do if the court does not restrict him.

Carpenter said she first became aware of Applegate on May 23, when he allegedly entered through a neighboring property, got past security fencing, and approached her front door.
The Los Angeles Times reported that Carpenter described his approach as “deliberate, calculated and aggressive.” She said he grabbed the front-door lever and tried to force his way inside without invitation, permission, or consent.
ABC7 reported that Carpenter’s filing referenced Ring doorbell images showing the man at her home. Her security team intervened before Los Angeles police responded and arrested Applegate for criminal trespass.
Carpenter said Applegate claimed he knew her and that she was expecting him, according to the Los Angeles Times. In the filing, she denied any connection to him.
Carpenter Says He Returned After the Arrest
The court filing alleges that the May 23 incident was not the end of the problem.
According to TMZ, Carpenter said Applegate returned to her home less than 24 hours after his arrest, then appeared again on May 25, prompting another police response.
ABC7 reported that Carpenter’s legal team said Applegate allegedly loitered in her driveway for two hours on May 24. The filing also says Carpenter’s security team later reviewed footage and determined that the alleged behavior may have started earlier, around April 20.
The Los Angeles Times reported that Carpenter described the pattern as escalating, with Applegate allegedly moving closer to her home over time before the May 23 front-door incident.
The Temporary Order Also Protects Her Sister
Carpenter’s request did not only seek protection for herself.
TMZ reported that the temporary restraining order also covers Carpenter’s sister, Sarah Carpenter, and Sarah’s boyfriend, George. Good Morning America reported that the petition sought protection for the sister and her boyfriend because they also live at the home.
In her declaration, Carpenter said Applegate was a stranger to her.
“I have never met him or communicated with him in any way,” she wrote, according to TMZ. “I have no desire to meet him or communicate with him.”
The Los Angeles Times reported that Carpenter described the alleged incident at her home as one of the most disturbing violations of personal safety and privacy she had experienced.
A Court Hearing Is Still Ahead
The temporary order is not the final step in the case.
TMZ reported that a hearing is expected later this month to determine whether the temporary restraining order should be extended. The Los Angeles Times reported that Applegate was charged with misdemeanor criminal trespassing and is scheduled to appear in court on June 18.
A Los Angeles Police Department detective also supported Carpenter’s concerns in the court documents, according to the Los Angeles Times. The detective described Applegate as posing a serious and escalating threat and said the alleged behavior showed a disturbing fixation on the singer.
For now, the legal development is limited but serious: Carpenter received temporary protection after alleging that a stranger repeatedly appeared at her home, tried to enter, and came back even after police had arrested him.
