Sean Ono Lennon has become a father for the first time, welcoming a son named Aurelius with his longtime partner, Charlotte Kemp Muhl.
The 50 year old musician announced the birth on September 1 with photographs of the new family. “Charlotte and I would like to announce that we have indeed created a Human Bean!” he wrote, according to PEOPLE. “His name is, Aurelius! Thank you!”
Aurelius is the couple’s first child and the first biological grandchild of Sean’s late father, John Lennon. Sean’s older half brother, Julian Lennon, has no children.
Muhl also shared photographs from their first days as parents, writing about sleep deprivation, learning how to burp a newborn and the music already playing around Aurelius. His early listening reportedly includes Aphex Twin and Igor Stravinsky.

Sean’s Instagram announcement showed him and Muhl holding Aurelius together while wearing coordinated black and white clothing.
He followed the announcement with additional photographs from the hospital, including one of himself holding Aurelius in a white blanket and another showing Muhl with the baby.
Friends and fellow musicians quickly congratulated the couple. Patti Smith and Willow Smith were among those responding to the announcement, while Julian Lennon also acknowledged the new arrival.
The couple did not disclose Aurelius’s exact birth date.
Charlotte Kemp Muhl Is Already Playing Him Aphex Twin and Stravinsky

Muhl offered her own account of early parenthood in an Instagram carousel featuring photographs with Aurelius.
Her caption moved between amazement at having made a person, lack of sleep and a request for advice about burping technique. She also revealed some of the music already playing for Aurelius, naming Aphex Twin and Igor Stravinsky.
The carousel included photographs outside the hospital as well, including images of Muhl carrying Aurelius in a baby harness near the water.
Sean and Charlotte Have Been Together Since 2007
Sean and Muhl met at Coachella before beginning their relationship in 2007. PEOPLE reports that they first crossed paths at the festival in 2005.
The relationship eventually became a musical partnership. In a MusicRadar interview, Sean recalled that they spent time communicating through letters, postcards and emails before he discovered how extensively Muhl wrote and played music.
They later formed The Ghost of a Saber Tooth Tiger and began releasing music together in 2010.
Both have continued working on other projects as well. Sean has released solo material and collaborated with Yoko Ono and Les Claypool, while Muhl has worked as a musician, songwriter, model and filmmaker.
Aurelius Is John Lennon’s First Grandchild
John Lennon had two sons, Julian Lennon with Cynthia Lennon and Sean with Yoko Ono. Neither had previously become a parent, making Aurelius John’s first biological grandchild.
The same description should not be applied to Yoko Ono. She also has a daughter, Kyoko Chan Cox, from her marriage to Anthony Cox, and Kyoko has two children of her own.
Sean has taken a larger role in preserving his parents’ work as Ono has grown older. In a December 2025 interview with CBS Sunday Morning, he described himself as a custodian of their legacy and said he wants younger generations to continue knowing the Beatles and the work of John Lennon and Yoko Ono.
