Sean Strickland’s strange night near the White House ended with him being escorted away from a UFC fan event, but authorities say it did not end with an arrest.

The UFC middleweight champion was removed from the UFC Freedom 250 Fan Fest at the Ellipse in Washington, D.C., after his unplanned appearance drew a surge of attention from fans, according to ESPN.

TMZ reported that Strickland was not arrested or cited for disorderly conduct after the incident. ESPN reported the same update from U.S. Park Police, who said he was advised not to return to the venue for his own safety and the safety of event patrons.

The clarification matters because early posts around the scene suggested Strickland might face a disorderly conduct charge. Police later said that was not the case.

According to ESPN, U.S. Park Police said officers evacuated Strickland from the area around 7 p.m., about two hours before the UFC Freedom 250 main card began.

“The unplanned presence of Sean Strickland drew significant attention from attendees, resulting in disorder,” the U.S. Park Police Public Information Office told ESPN. “Due to concerns for Strickland’s safety and the safety of event patrons, personnel from the U.S. Marshals Service, U.S. Park Police, and other assisting agencies evacuated him safely from the area.”

Park Police said Strickland was neither cited nor arrested in connection with the incident, according to ESPN. He was transported back to his hotel without issue and told not to return to the venue.

The removal followed a chaotic fan-event scene rather than a criminal booking. That distinction is the central update after the first wave of videos and posts framed the night more dramatically.

Strickland Had Suggested He Might Face Trouble

Strickland added to the confusion with his own posts after being removed. MMA Fighting reported that he said on Instagram that he “may have been charged with disorderly conduct” and thanked fans for supporting him throughout the week.

In another post cited by MMA Fighting, Strickland shared a photo of himself being led away by security and wrote, “Sorry you guys. We almost made it!”

Strickland’s own posts suggested possible legal trouble, but U.S. Park Police said he was not arrested and was not cited.

The Incident Followed a Guest-List Dispute

Strickland had already drawn attention before UFC Freedom 250 by claiming he had been banned from the White House-linked event. UFC CEO Dana White pushed back on that framing, saying Strickland was not banned but was not on the limited guest list, according to MMA Fighting.

MMA Fighting reported that Strickland still traveled to Washington, D.C., and appeared during fight-week activities. He was also seen at the pre-fight press conference before the Fan Fest incident.

At the Ellipse, Strickland made it inside the fan festival and jumped into a WWE ring set up at the event, MMA Fighting reported. Security removed him shortly afterward.

UFC Freedom 250 was already an unusual sports setting, with the main card staged on the White House South Lawn and the fan festival held nearby. Strickland’s removal became one of the side stories from a heavily watched fight week.
