Shakira is not trying to turn her post-Gerard Piqué chapter into a new romance.
The Colombian superstar opened up about rebuilding her life after the couple’s 2022 separation in a new People cover story. Just Jared reported that Shakira said she is focused on raising her sons, Milan, 13, and Sasha, 11, rather than looking for romance right now.
“I’m just thinking of raising my kids,” she told People. “I don’t see that for now. Maybe when they’re older.”

Shakira Said Motherhood Kept Her Moving
Shakira told People that life did not pause after the split.
“When your world collapses, you have to get up and pay the bills and still prepare breakfast and take your kids to school,” she said. “Life needs to go on.”
She said motherhood gave her strength during the hardest stretch of the breakup and that her sons helped keep her focused on daily life.
The Breakup Became Part of Her Music
Shakira and Piqué confirmed their separation in June 2022 after more than a decade together. They share Milan and Sasha.
The breakup later became part of Shakira’s music, especially “Shakira: Bzrp Music Sessions, Vol. 53,” her 2023 collaboration with Bizarrap.
People reported that Shakira called the song “pure catharsis” and said writing from that place helped her process what she was going through.
She Says She Found More Strength Than She Expected
Page Six covered Shakira’s comments about the heartbreak after Piqué’s alleged affair, including her blunt line that life can be harsh.
Shakira also told People that the period showed her she was more resilient than she once believed.
The new interview does not present dating as her next priority. Shakira is still talking about the breakup, but her current focus is clearer: her sons, her work, and the life she has rebuilt since leaving Spain for Miami.
Her Career Is Also in a Major Moment
The relationship-status update comes during another major professional stretch for Shakira.
People reported that her Las Mujeres Ya No Lloran World Tour has become the highest-grossing Hispanic tour of all time, reaching more than $421 million and counting.
She is also set to co-headline the first-ever World Cup Final halftime show at MetLife Stadium on July 19, 2026. People previously reported that Madonna, Shakira, and BTS were announced as the halftime show headliners.
For now, Shakira is not ruling out love forever. She is saying it does not belong at the center of this part of her life. Her sons and her career already have that space.
