Shawn Mendes made his first permanent Instagram declaration to Bruna Marquezine on her 31st birthday, choosing footage from a Rio de Janeiro cultural center instead of leading with a carefully staged couple portrait.
The August 4 tribute gave Mendes his clearest public acknowledgment yet of a relationship that had generated months of reports, photographs and affectionate public sightings.
He openly told the Brazilian actress that he loved her while highlighting how she spent part of her birthday surrounded by children at Casa Amarela Providência.
Mendes and Marquezine began generating romance speculation in late 2025 after they were seen together at events and outings in Brazil.

“Feliz aniversário my baby,” Mendes began, combining Portuguese and English in his caption. He described Marquezine as a light in every room she enters and said she had changed his life.
“Not to be tooooo sappy but you’ve truly changed my life, and I am so so grateful for you,” the 27-year-old singer wrote, according to People. Mendes ended the personal message with “Eu te amo muito muito muitoo,” which translates to “I love you so, so, so much.”
He also thanked Casa Amarela Providência for its work, making the organization part of the birthday tribute rather than treating the post solely as a relationship announcement.
The Carousel Highlighted Marquezine’s Visit With Children

Several videos showed Marquezine interacting with children at the cultural center in Morro da Providência, Rio de Janeiro. In the opening clip, children ran toward the actress and welcomed her with hugs. Another showed her singing and dancing while the group appeared to perform “Happy Birthday.”
Mendes also included footage of himself smiling with two children. CNN Brasil reported that he spoke briefly in Portuguese during the visit while posing for a photograph.
Mendes shared a separate photograph of himself posing with Marquezine through Instagram Stories. His main-grid tribute, however, kept her visit with the children at the center of the post.
The Post Ended Months of Public Uncertainty
Photographs published in January 2026 showed them kissing during a trip to Alagoas. They were subsequently photographed embracing during a grocery-store outing in Los Angeles and holding hands on a hike.
The pair continued appearing together in both countries, including at Brazil’s Carnival in February and during later outings in Los Angeles. Elle noted in May that they had not publicly discussed the romance despite no longer hiding their affection.
Casa Amarela Providência Has Served the Community Since 2009
Casa Amarela Providência is a cultural center located in Morro da Providência, considered Rio de Janeiro’s first favela. French visual artist JR and Brazilian photographer Maurício Hora founded the center in 2009. It provides creative learning and community programs for children, teenagers and adults, with activities spanning art, photography, music, dance, education and cultural expression.
Marquezine Began Acting as a Child
Marquezine was born on August 4, 1995, in Duque de Caxias, near Rio de Janeiro, and began working professionally as a child. She developed a prominent television and film career in Brazil before making her Hollywood feature debut as Jenny Kord opposite Xolo Maridueña in the 2023 DC movie Blue Beetle.
Her later projects have included the Netflix series Maldivas and the Brazilian romantic series Amor da Minha Vida, on which she also worked as a producer and director.
