Simon Cowell’s fiancée, Lauren Silverman, is speaking more openly about the painful public chapter that began when she became pregnant with Cowell’s child while still married to Andrew Silverman.

During an appearance on Happy Mum: The Podcast, Silverman reflected on the emotional fallout from the 2013 pregnancy news, the end of her first marriage and the media scrutiny that followed.

Silverman and Cowell welcomed their son, Eric, on Feb. 14, 2014. More than a decade later, she is not describing that period as simple celebrity gossip.

She described it as a painful family crisis that involved a divorce, a pregnancy, a young child from her first marriage and a public spotlight she could not escape.

Silverman Called It One of the Hardest Times of Her Life

Silverman said the pregnancy came with “so many emotions” because it happened while her marriage was ending, according to People.

She said she does not regret the life she has with Cowell or their son, but she wishes the situation had unfolded differently.

“Do I wish it had happened a different way? Of course I do,” Silverman said, according to Entertainment Weekly.

She also acknowledged the pain the scandal caused her ex-husband, their son Adam and people around the family. The point of the interview was not to clean up the past or pretend no one was hurt. Silverman said she had to live with the consequences while also preparing to become a mother again.

The Public Scrutiny Made the Pregnancy Difficult

The pregnancy became public in 2013, when Cowell was already one of television’s most recognizable figures because of American Idol, The X Factor and the Got Talent franchise.

That level of fame turned a private family collapse into a tabloid story almost immediately.

Silverman said the attention made it hard to feel joy during the pregnancy. She told Happy Mum host Giovanna Fletcher that she felt judged in public and compared the experience to walking around with a “scarlet letter.”

She also said she kept her head down for a long time, waiting for the press to move on to another story.

She Says Her Relationship With Andrew Silverman Is Better Now

Silverman said her divorce from Andrew was terrible at the time, but she is proud of the relationship they have built in the years since.

“My ex and I, we do have a very nice relationship,” she said, according to Page Six.

She and Andrew share son Adam. Silverman and Cowell share Eric, whose birth she described as life-changing for Cowell.

Cowell proposed to Silverman on Christmas Eve in 2021 during a family trip to Barbados. People reported that Eric and Adam were both present for the proposal.

Silverman said she knew during the early turmoil that Cowell was the person she wanted to spend her life with. She also said she believes things happened for a reason, even though she wishes the path had been less painful.
