Taylor Fritz and Morgan Riddle’s nearly six-year relationship ended in April, and new reporting says the split may have come down to two practical questions: what role Riddle wanted in Fritz’s family life and where she wanted to build her own future.
Anonymous sources told Page Six that Riddle was not ready to take on a stepmother role to Fritz’s 9-year-old son and did not want to settle full time in California. The sources said her career was pulling her toward New York, where she moved this spring.
Neither Fritz nor Riddle has publicly confirmed those specific reasons. Riddle has spoken more broadly about why she left, saying in June that she had spent roughly a year and a half feeling as though the life she was living no longer felt like her own. She also told ELLE that she and Fritz were “on good terms.”
Fritz has since been linked to Olivia Jade Giannulli. Page Six’s sources have described the relationship as casual and not exclusive, while neither Fritz nor Giannulli has publicly defined it. Riddle, for her part, has not publicly commented on Giannulli.

Page Six’s September 4 report gives the most specific account yet of what may have separated Fritz and Riddle. According to the outlet’s sources, Riddle was not prepared to become a stepmother and wanted to pursue her career in New York rather than establish a full-time life in California.
When the breakup became public on April 25, PEOPLE reported that one source said Riddle had ended the relationship, while a second described the split as mutual. Riddle acknowledged her new status on Instagram with a photo of herself wearing a “World’s Best Ex-Girlfriend” shirt. Fritz has not publicly offered his own explanation for the breakup.
Riddle did make one major geographical change around the same time. ELLE reported in June that she had moved to New York earlier in the spring after spending the previous five years in Los Angeles. She told the magazine that she loved her new apartment and had friends living nearby.
Riddle Said She Knew ‘It Wasn’t My Life’
Riddle gave a more personal explanation during a June 24 appearance on the Hot Smart Rich podcast. Asked about realizing she had outgrown a relationship, she said, “I just knew it wasn’t my life.” She described spending roughly a year and a half struggling to feel at home in her own life before deciding to leave.
Later in the interview, Riddle said that within the same 10-day stretch she ended a six-year relationship, moved across the country and launched a business. She also spoke openly about wanting financial independence throughout her relationship and said being able to support herself made leaving less complicated financially.
Her professional plans have not required leaving tennis behind. Riddle co-founded The 400 Club, a sports marketing agency and membership community focused on female sports fans, and said on Hot Smart Rich that she still intended to attend tournaments, make tennis content and fulfill partnerships she already had lined up for the US Open.

Fritz and Giannulli were first linked in May and were photographed together in New York on August 24. Page Six’s sources have since said the two have been spending time together for several months but are not exclusive. Other anonymous-source reporting has characterized the connection more definitively, although Fritz and Giannulli themselves have not publicly addressed their status.
The September 4 Page Six report also attributed claims about Riddle’s reaction to unnamed sources. Riddle herself has not publicly discussed Giannulli, criticized Fritz for dating again or connected his new relationship to their breakup.
She has been much clearer about what she wants next. Riddle told ELLE that she made a 33-point list of non-negotiables for a future relationship, including shared life goals, political alignment and intellectual intimacy. One condition required considerably fewer than 33 points to explain: “I’ll never date an athlete again.”
