The Voice finalist Josh Sanders is facing a custody fight with his estranged wife, Kendra Sanders, after the couple separated earlier this year.
According to court documents obtained by TMZ, Josh and Kendra have been arguing over custody of their three children since their January split.
The filings include competing allegations from both sides, with Josh claiming he is being blocked from co-parenting and Kendra arguing that he should have supervised visitation.
The case brings a difficult private dispute into public view two years after Sanders finished as runner-up on season 25 of The Voice. He competed on Team Reba McEntire and placed second behind Asher HaVon in 2024.
Josh Sanders Claims He Is Being Kept From Co-Parenting
In his filing, Josh claims Kendra is trying to turn the children against him and has kept him from co-parenting, TMZ reported. He also claims one of the children has said she wants to live with him.
Josh is asking the court to consider his side of the custody dispute as he seeks to remain involved in his children’s lives. TMZ did not report a final custody ruling, and the filings show the case is still active.
Kendra Sanders Asked for Supervised Visitation
Kendra made her own claims in response. According to TMZ, she alleged Josh is an “active alcoholic” and claimed he “drank away” professional opportunities after finishing second on The Voice.
She also alleged that he drove drunk with the children in the car and had been violent in front of them. Kendra argued that Josh should have supervised visitation and said she should have primary custody because she can provide a “stable, loving, alcohol free home,” TMZ reported.
Those are serious allegations, but they remain part of the custody filings. The article should not present them as proven facts unless a court later makes findings on the record.
TMZ also reported that Josh was arrested in April for allegedly violating a domestic violence temporary restraining order. Earlier this month, Josh filed a trespassing complaint against Kendra, according to the same report.

Sanders became familiar to NBC viewers during season 25 of The Voice, where he competed on Team Reba. NBC says he made it to the final two and finished at No. 2 behind Asher HaVon.
His run on the show was tied closely to his family story and his faith. NBC described Sanders as a North Carolina native, family man and musician whose life had been shaped by tragedy before he reached the finale.
