Venezuelan opposition leader María Corina Machado walked into the White House on Thursday carrying the one thing Donald Trump has wanted for years: a Nobel Peace Prize medal.
She left with a red paper bag stamped with the president’s gold signature.
The exchange—Machado presenting Trump with her 2025 Nobel Peace Prize during their Oval Office meeting—immediately became meme fuel. Within hours, edited images flooded social media showing Trump accepting awards he never won.
“For all you Seinfeld fans“ wrote @johnny.mtl on Threads, posting a split image of Trump and Machado above a clip of Elaine from Seinfeld declaring, “She’s a re-gifter.” The post drew over 1,000 likes.

The “stolen valor” edits came next.
“Gawd, he’s just the best!“ wrote @annzuccardy, sharing a doctored image of Serena Williams handing Trump her Wimbledon trophy. The fake headline read: “Trump wins Wimbledon Women’s Singles tennis championship.” The post racked up 10,000 likes, 734 reposts, and 233 comments.
“Congratulations! Trump has been awarded the Triwizard Cup from Harry Potter,” wrote @casidevotee, posting an edit of Daniel Radcliffe presenting the trophy to a grinning Trump in the Oval Office. That one pulled 2,700 likes.

Another user, @HILITINGHOCKEY, went deeper into the archives: “The accolades & awards continue to pour in for Trump,” they wrote, alongside an image of Trump accepting the 1984 All Valley Karate Championship trophy from The Karate Kid.
@GaryPetersonUSA took a different approach, editing the framed Nobel into a “Jr. Participation Trophy” and writing: “After outlawing all wars, President Trump is an official Nobel Peace Prize winner, thanks to this gift from Queen Machada of Venezuela. This is the greatest achievement for a leader since President Gerald Carter’s World’s Greatest Dad mug.”

Then the satire got religious.
“WHITE HOUSE: Minutes Ago: Jesus presents Donald Trump with his Prince of Peace Award,” wrote @jeffrey_peaceful_warrior, posting AI-generated images of Christ handing Trump a crown of thorns. The post drew 1,300 likes—and 837 comments.
The Onion, meanwhile, did what The Onion does: “Giddy Trump Struts All Around White House With Nobel Peace Prize In Mouth.” The post included a doctored image of Trump holding the framed medal while appearing to clutch the gold coin between his teeth. It drew 428 likes.

Senator Amy Klobuchar weighed in with a quote-tweet of the official White House photo. “I’m open to a Super Bowl ring…” she wrote. The post earned 4,900 likes and 203 comments.
The Nobel Peace Center responded with a statement of its own. “A medal can change owners, but the title of a Nobel Peace Prize laureate cannot,” the institution wrote on X, where it drew over 2.9 million views.
The #NobelPeacePrize medal.
It measures 6.6 cm in diameter, weighs 196 grams and is struck in gold. On its face, a portrait of Alfred Nobel and on its reverse, three naked men holding around each other’s shoulders as a sign of brotherhood. A design unchanged for 120 years.

The subtext was hard to miss.
Behind the jokes, though, was a detail that cut deeper.
The Washington Post had previously reported that Trump withheld support from Machado specifically because she accepted the Nobel Prize he wanted. A source told the paper: “If she had turned it down and said, ‘I can’t accept it because it’s Donald Trump’s,’ she’d be the president of Venezuela today.”
Machado, for her part, framed the gift as gratitude. “He deserves it,” she told Fox News. “It was a very emotional moment.”
Trump called it “a wonderful gesture of mutual respect.”
The Nobel Committee was less diplomatic. Their rules are clear: the prize cannot be revoked, shared, or transferred. The decision, they noted, “is final and stands for all time.”
Trump has the medal. Machado has a gift bag.
The internet has the memes.
