Usher cut an intimate concert segment short after the fan selected to join him onstage appeared uncomfortable with the routine.
The encounter happened during Nashville stop of The R&B Tour, Usher’s co-headlining stadium run with Chris Brown. Gabrielle Cheyenne was seated on a bed used in the staging for “Can U Handle It?” while the shirtless singer performed directly to her.
After footage spread online, Cheyenne said she had accepted an invitation to go onstage without being told which performer had selected her or what the interaction would involve.
She also rejected the idea that entering the spotlight required her to respond physically in the way viewers expected.

Video from the concert showed Cheyenne sitting upright while Usher performed “Can U Handle It?” He touched her chin and face before moving closer, but she did not lean toward him or mirror the flirtatious performance.
When Usher encouraged her to lie back on the bed, Cheyenne shifted away. “I don’t think she want to be on the stage, huh?” he told the crowd before stepping back and motioning toward members of the concert staff.
Some people in the audience could be heard reacting as Cheyenne was escorted from the platform. Usher then continued the show without offering a longer explanation. Several reports described Cheyenne as being removed or “kicked off” the stage.

Cheyenne responded after viewers questioned why she had agreed to go onstage. “First off NOBODY is declining to go on stage,” she wrote, according to The Daily Beast.
She said she attended the concert with her mother and that they originally had floor seats before tour staff moved them into the VIP area. “They don’t say who you’re going up there for!” she wrote while responding to criticism of her reaction.
Cheyenne also pushed back against people insulting her online. “My attitude isn’t ‘nasty’ until I’m provoked,” she wrote on Instagram. “Y’all aren’t gonna get on the internet calling me out my name and disrespecting me and expect me to keep cool.”
The Encounter Happened During Usher and Chris Brown’s Stadium Tour
The Nashville performance was part of the 2026 tour bringing Usher and Brown together for a 33-date North American stadium run.
Nissan Stadium lists the concert as taking place on Saturday, July 25, with the show scheduled to begin at 7:30 p.m. The tour is produced by Live Nation and continues through December.
