Anne Hathaway knows whether she is expecting another son or her first daughter, but even a room full of Disney fans could not convince her to reveal the answer early.
The 43-year-old actress was accepting her Disney Legend honor at D23 on August 16 when someone in the audience shouted, “Boy or girl?” Hathaway immediately laughed off the question instead of giving away the secret.
“Oh, just be patient!” she replied, according to E! News.
Hathaway has not publicly revealed when her third child is expected to arrive, and she had already made clear earlier in August that she and husband Adam Shulman intend to keep the baby’s sex private for now.
Hathaway Joked That Fans Would Have to Be Patient

Hathaway’s playful answer at the Disney Legends ceremony was consistent with how she has handled questions about baby No. 3 throughout her pregnancy.
Rather than reveal whether she is expecting a boy or girl, she turned the audience member’s question into a joke and kept the focus on the celebration. Cradling her baby bump, she then joked, “You’re gonna find out in five minutes.”
Hathaway Had Already Said, ‘We Know, We’re Not Saying’
Only six days before D23, Hathaway faced the same question during an appearance on Jimmy Kimmel Live!. Guest host Anthony Anderson guessed that she and Shulman might be expecting another boy.
“We know,” she said, before adding, “We’re not saying.” When the studio audience applauded the decision, she thanked them and admitted that keeping the answer private still made her feel slightly awkward. “I always feel so rude saying that. I feel so bad,” she said, according to PEOPLE.
Her Sons Were With Her for the Disney Legends Ceremony
Hathaway and Shulman are already parents to sons Jonathan, 10, and Jack, 6. Both boys made an unusually public appearance with their parents at the Disney Legends Awards, joining Hathaway on the red carpet before the ceremony.
Hathaway said on Jimmy Kimmel Live! that the boys were “over the moon” about the new baby. She described the pregnancy as something the entire household was experiencing together, saying emotionally it felt as though “the family’s having a baby.”
Her growing family was also part of her Disney Legends speech. Hathaway referenced all three of her children, joking that one of them was currently onstage with her as she held her bump.
D23 Marked Another Milestone in Hathaway’s Disney History
Hathaway was honored as part of the 2026 Disney Legends class, the company’s highest distinction. The Walt Disney Company confirmed that she was inducted alongside honorees including Dwayne Johnson, the Jonas Brothers, Lin-Manuel Miranda, Bob Iger and Jerry Bruckheimer.
The recognition comes 25 years after Hathaway became closely associated with Disney through her breakout role as Mia Thermopolis in The Princess Diaries. During her acceptance speech, she described herself as extraordinarily fortunate and thanked the people who had helped shape her career.
