Cardi B plans to give her sons some freedom when they begin dating, but she says an unplanned pregnancy would immediately change the support available to them.

During an early-morning Instagram Live on July 23, the rapper said a son who got someone pregnant would have to leave her home, find a job and accept financial responsibility for the family he helped create.

Cardi stressed that she would continue speaking with and emotionally supporting him.

What would end, she said, is his ability to depend on his parents’ money and home while making decisions with adult consequences.

Cardi said she does not intend to prohibit her sons from dating or bringing girls to the family home when they are older. “I’m not the type of mom that is like, ‘No, you can’t have girls over,’” she said during the Live, according to Complex.

Her position would change if one of them announced that he had gotten someone pregnant. “The day that you tell me that you got a girl pregnant, it will be the day that you will have to get the f*** out of my house,” Cardi said.

She argued that someone prepared to make a decision with potentially lifelong consequences should also be prepared to assume adult responsibilities.

“When you become a man, it’s no mommy’s money,” she continued. “It’s no daddy’s money. It’s no mommy’s roof. You have to get out of my house, and you have to get a job, and you gotta learn how to be a man.”

She Would Continue Supporting Her Son Emotionally

“I will support you. I will not stop talking to you. I will pep talk you,” she said. “But son, it’s time to be a man.” Her concern was that allowing a son to remain completely financially comfortable could teach him that his parents would absorb the consequences of repeated irresponsible decisions.

“If I let you be comfortable as a man, you going to keep having kids over and over and over again and think that mommy and daddy is going to take care of it,” she said. Cardi said she would still offer guidance, but the son would be expected to work and begin supporting himself.

Dating Would Be Allowed Under Strict House Rules

Cardi said her sons would be permitted to bring girls home, although they would not be given complete privacy. “I will let my sons bring girls to the house, but the doors can’t be f***ing closed,” she said.

She acknowledged that boys may test boundaries as they grow older and could be more difficult for parents to control. “Boys are going to do whatever the f*** they want,” Cardi said. “They not gonna be listening to their moms like that.”

She said she plans to give them allowances as teenagers and would help pay their rent after age 18 if they were attending school or building a business.

Cardi Plans Different Dating Rules for Her Daughters

Cardi expects to take a stricter approach with her daughters, drawing on boundaries imposed by her own mother. She recalled knowing girls who entered relationships and became sexually active at very young ages, while her mother made it clear that she could not date until she was 16.

“As much as I hated it, my daughters, if they’re going to have a boyfriend, I want them to be at 16,” she said. Cardi said her concern extends beyond sexual activity. She believes intense teenage relationships can distract young people from school, ambitions and other long-term goals.

“Once a girl have a boyfriend, they get too emotional,” she said. “They stop caring about school. They stop caring about their future.” She also said she intends to discourage her daughters from becoming sexually active too early by using the same fear-based warnings she heard growing up.

“I’mma scare the s*** out of them just like my mama scared the s*** out of me,” Cardi said.

She Wants Her Children to Build Lives Beyond Their Parents’ Wealth

Cardi is the mother of four children. She shares daughter Kulture, son Wave and daughter Blossom with Offset and welcomed a younger son with NFL player Stefon Diggs in November 2025.

During a 2025 appearance on Jay Shetty’s On Purpose podcast, Cardi said she does not want her success to prevent her children from developing discipline and ambitions of their own. “It’s discipline,” she said. “It’s gotta be in you, and you have to be better than me. I want you to be better than me.”
