Carmen Electra is rejecting the idea that age should determine when someone stops taking risks, reinventing themselves or feeling confident in front of a camera.
The actress and model returned to Playboy for its Summer 2026 issue, three decades after making her magazine debut at 24.
Speaking with Fox News Digital, Electra said women should not allow other people to convince them that they are too old to pursue something they still want.
Her message focused less on maintaining a youthful appearance than on refusing to let outside expectations control her choices.
Electra Challenged the Idea That Confidence Has an Age Limit
“Don’t let anyone tell you you’re too old,” Electra said. “That’s a myth.” She encouraged women to change the way they speak to themselves and begin each day by reinforcing their own value rather than allowing criticism to shape their confidence.
Electra also connected remaining compelling at any age to maintaining a youthful spirit. She recalled reading about the importance of preserving a connection to one’s inner child and decided she never wanted to lose that part of herself.
Some of the older performers she continues to admire, she said, remain magnetic because they express their authentic personalities rather than trying to satisfy every critic. Electra acknowledged that she still sees negative comments online but has learned not to treat another person’s disapproval as her responsibility.
She Never Expected to Pose for the Magazine Again

Electra admitted that she did not assume another Playboy appearance would become part of her career. She ultimately accepted the opportunity because she was already comfortable sharing glamorous photographs through her social-media accounts and still viewed the magazine as an important part of her professional history.
Electra first appeared in the May 1996 issue. She subsequently returned for several features and covers, with her previous U.S. appearance coming in the magazine’s January 2009 anniversary edition. The Summer 2026 feature therefore marks both the 30th anniversary of her debut and her first appearance in the magazine’s pages in approximately 17 years.
Photographer Max Montgomery captured the new images, which feature Electra in black lingerie, leather, fishnets and platform heels. The issue, released July 28, also features Cara Delevingne as its cover star.
The Feature Gave Her a New Advisory Role
Electra served as a guest Playboy Advisor and responded to readers’ questions about dating, confidence, intimacy, aging and personal reinvention. Her answers included advice for people navigating midlife relationships, dating apps, physical expectations and major changes to their identities.
When one reader asked about adopting a different name, Electra encouraged the person to make the change if it would help them feel more comfortable and self-assured. Electra was born Tara Leigh Patrick but began using Carmen Electra after Prince suggested the name during the early stages of her career.
She initially thought the name sounded like something belonging to a superhero, but it gradually became inseparable from her public identity. A Los Angeles judge granted her request to make Carmen Electra her legal name in February 2024, more than three decades after Prince first gave it to her.
She Had Little Time to Prepare for the Shoot
Electra said her schedule was so busy that the photo shoot began before she had time to prepare in the way she originally intended. Although she hoped to spend more time in the gym, she primarily relied on regular walks through her neighborhood while completing the project on deadline.
Electra said she was pleased with the final photographs and even happier with the supportive reaction they received from fans. Her strongest source of confidence, however, has remained professional activity rather than a particular beauty or fitness routine. “I feel the most confident when I’m working,” she said, explaining that remaining creatively active continues to make her happy.
Electra Would Welcome a ‘Baywatch’ Cameo
Electra remains open to revisiting another defining part of her career as Fox prepares a new version of Baywatch. She played lifeguard Lani McKenzie during the original series’ 1997-1998 season and later returned for the 2003 reunion movie Baywatch: Hawaiian Wedding.
Electra advised the new cast to prepare for the physical demands of filming around the ocean, including swimming, diving from boats, moving through waves and repeatedly running across sand.
She said cast members who already consider themselves capable swimmers should work on becoming even stronger before production. “Hopefully they’ll think about me and bring me in for a cameo,” she said.
