Colman Domingo turned the pasta course into a dance party at a Hollywood dinner celebrating his upcoming Academy Museum honor, according to W Magazine.

The event took place Friday, October 16, at Bar Di Bello, an Italian restaurant in the Silver Lake neighborhood of Los Angeles.

Domingo and W Magazine editor-in-chief Sara Moonves hosted the evening with French jewelry house Boucheron. Their guest list brought together actors, musicians, filmmakers and fashion figures.

Among them was Taraji P. Henson, Domingo’s costar from the 2023 film The Color Purple. Photographer Myles Hendrik captured the pair together, along with other guests throughout the restaurant.

The evening had begun with cocktails, with guests spending time on the outdoor patio before settling into the restaurant’s velvet booths. The group stayed for tiramisu.

John Waters Arrives First as Domingo’s Costars Join the Dinner

John Waters was the first guest to arrive, wearing a metallic blue dinner jacket. Jaafar Jackson joined the gathering for cocktails.

Jackson portrayed his uncle Michael Jackson in this year’s Michael, with Domingo playing the singer’s father, Joseph Jackson. Fellow cast member Laura Harrier, who played Suzanne de Passe, also attended the dinner.

Owen Thiele arrived later and received a hug from Tyriq Withers. Elsewhere, Obsession costars Inde Navarrette and Michael Johnston caught up over burrata.

Common, a friend of Domingo, talked with actor and musician Evan Ross. Cazzie David and Odessa A’zion spent time chatting, while Henson spoke with W editor-at-large Lynn Hirschberg.

Other guests included Alycia Debnam-Carey, Nicholas Duvernay, Gia Coppola, cinematographer Autumn Durald Arkapaw and Boucheron vice president Aladin Hardy. Raúl Domingo was also photographed with the evening’s host.

The Academy Museum of Motion Pictures will present Domingo with the Vantage Award at its sixth annual fundraising gala on Saturday, October 17. The award recognizes a film artist whose work challenges dominant narratives in cinema.

Domingo earned consecutive lead-actor Oscar nominations for Rustin in 2024 and Sing Sing in 2025.

In Rustin, he portrayed civil rights organizer Bayard Rustin, a central figure behind the 1963 March on Washington. His Sing Sing character, Divine G, finds purpose in a theater group while imprisoned for a crime he did not commit.

Charlize Theron will receive the Icon Award, recognizing the global impact of her career. Filmmaker John Carpenter will receive the Luminary Award for his influence on the creative possibilities of filmmaking.

The museum’s October 8 announcement names Tom Ford, Robert Rodriguez, Steven Spielberg and Kate Capshaw as gala co-chairs. Taylor Swift is scheduled to perform at the event.

Rolex is the gala’s founding supporter and presenting partner. Funds raised will support the museum’s exhibitions, public screenings and educational programming.
