Danny Ramirez has a two-exercise answer for the attention surrounding his Falcon suit in the new Avengers: Doomsday trailer, split squats and Romanian deadlifts.
The actor learned that the brief shot had become a major online talking point when people began sending him posts about it. After seeing the reaction spread on X, he described the experience as “unreal.”
Ramirez discussed the moment with Entertainment Tonight at San Diego Comic-Con on July 25. He credited trainer Nick Shimanek before naming the leg exercises behind the look.
Some of that preparation began before Ramirez returned as Joaquin Torres in the Marvel movie. He had recently trained for Baton, the soccer drama he wrote, directed and stars in, and said the project required a significant change to his diet.

“Shoutout to my trainer Nick Shimanek. Uh, split squats, um, RDLs. Ya gotta get after it,” Ramirez said when asked about the trailer shot.
He had not been tracking the conversation when it began. “It was, um, I got sent that early on, and then I saw it on Twitter, and it was unreal,” he said. Ramirez laughed about the unexpected attention before adding, “There’s worse things to go viral for.”
His Baton Preparation Carried Into Doomsday
When asked about his leg-training schedule, Ramirez explained that he had arrived at the Marvel production after preparing to play a soccer player. “I was coming off of prep for a soccer film, and so, there was a big diet shift,” he said.
That film, Baton, marks his feature directorial debut. Ramirez also wrote the screenplay and plays an aspiring professional soccer player sent back to Miami after being removed from his team, a setback that threatens his relationship with his sister as he pursues another opportunity in the sport.
David Beckham is an executive producer, and Major League Soccer recently joined the project as a strategic partner, according to Deadline. The cast includes Edgar Ramírez, Eugenio Derbez, Rosario Dawson, Camila Mendes, Lewis Pullman, Maia Reficco, Diego Calva, Becky G, Gabriel Luna, Mía Maestro, Ester Expósito and Noah Beck. Baton is in post-production and does not yet have an announced release date.
Joaquin Torres Returns as the MCU’s Falcon
Ramirez introduced Joaquin Torres in the Disney+ series The Falcon and the Winter Soldier. The character later assumed the Falcon identity alongside Anthony Mackie’s Sam Wilson in Captain America: Brave New World.
The Doomsday trailer brings Torres into a much larger group of Marvel heroes that includes characters from the Avengers, Fantastic Four and X-Men franchises. Joe and Anthony Russo directed the film, with Robert Downey Jr. returning to the Marvel Cinematic Universe as Victor von Doom. Marvel Studios lists Ramirez among the ensemble cast. Avengers: Doomsday opens in theaters on December 18, 2026.
