Kelly Clarkson does not see her single status as a problem, especially when other people’s relationships make going home alone look appealing.
During the July 24 performance of her Studio Sessions residency at the Colosseum at Caesars Palace, the singer joked about the questions she receives about why she is not dating.
“First of all, there are a lot of people out here making single look real good,” Clarkson told the Las Vegas audience. She said some couples leave her thinking, “I am so glad I’m going home alone.”
Clarkson also acknowledged that a lasting relationship requires more than finding the right person. Couples, she said, have to continue dating each other and prevent everyday life from becoming monotonous.
Clarkson Is Happy to Avoid Other Couples’ Problems

Clarkson’s remarks began as a humorous response to people who question why she remains single. “And if you didn’t really understand what I meant by that, it’s like you see relationships and you’re like, ‘I am so glad I’m going home alone,’” she said in footage from the concert.
She followed the comment with a more direct punchline: “You know what’s not happening in my house? That s—.” Clarkson did not identify a particular couple or suggest that she was describing a specific relationship.
The singer finalized her divorce from Brandon Blackstock in March 2022 after separating in 2020. She has largely kept her romantic life private since the end of their marriage.
She Says Couples Have to Keep Dating
Clarkson then addressed the work required to preserve a long-term connection. “If you are in a relationship, the hardest part I feel like is just keeping that fire alive and still dating,” she said.
She added that couples have to continue “making it feel magical and not monotonous.” Clarkson has expressed a similar view during earlier residency performances. In July 2025, she told the crowd that dating “can be very difficult,” adding that public attention can turn an already challenging experience into “a dumpster fire,” according to People.
Clarkson Wants a Partner With an Independent Life
In a 2024 People interview, Clarkson said a potential partner would need to bring an independent life into the relationship rather than rely on her to provide happiness or stability.
“It’s far more romantic to say, ‘I want you, but I don’t need anything,’” she said at the time. Clarkson also described herself as comfortable being single and said she was having a good time.
Her 2026 Studio Sessions performances continue at Caesars Palace through August 15. The summer run coincided with the July 17 release of her new single, “I’d Be Lyin’,” which Clarkson described as a sarcastic, Prince-inspired pop song with an anthemic rock chorus.
