Emma Watson made a rare public appearance in London for an environmental cause tied to Prince William’s conservation work.
The Harry Potter actress joined Prince William and Benedict Cumberbatch on Monday, June 22, at a business forum for The Royal Foundation’s United for Wildlife. The event took place during London Climate Action Week and focused on the natural world, environmental crime and the role businesses can play in protecting wildlife.
People reported that Watson, William and Cumberbatch appeared together for a discussion about environmental storytelling and the shared responsibility to protect nature.
Her last major starring film role was Greta Gerwig’s Little Women in 2019, and she has since been more selective about public events.
Watson Joined Prince William and Cumberbatch on Stage
Watson spoke during the United for Wildlife forum with William and Cumberbatch as part of a conversation hosted during London Climate Action Week. The organization described the discussion as one about the natural world and the responsibility people share in protecting it.
People reported that Watson talked about the power of storytelling, especially when brands discuss climate and environmental issues. She said transparency matters and that the way those stories are told matters to young people.
Watson also shared a lighter story from her Harry Potter years, recalling a moment when she thought photographers were trying to take pictures of her but later realized they were focused on a rare red kite bird nearby.
The Appearance Marked a Rare Public Outing

Watson wore a black top with a flowing white skirt for the London appearance. InStyle noted that she also wore her hair long and wavy, a style the outlet compared to her later Harry Potter era.
The actress has not disappeared from public life, but her appearances have become less frequent and more tied to specific causes. In recent years, she has been more visible in conversations around activism, education, sustainability and workplace protections than in standard film-promotion cycles.
She Has Supported William’s Climate Work Before
Watson has appeared alongside Prince William’s environmental work before. In 2021, she presented the “Fix Our Climate” award at the inaugural Earthshot Prize ceremony in London.
William’s climate work was also part of the wider week. People reported that during London Climate Action Week, he discussed the Earthshot Prize and said the initiative helps him “sleep at night” because it gives him hope about environmental solutions.
The United for Wildlife event was a separate Royal Foundation forum, but it sat within the same week of climate-focused appearances. The Court Circular reported that William attended United for Wildlife events at Frameless in London and took part in a panel marking the 10th anniversary of the Buckingham Palace Declaration on the transportation of illegal wildlife products.
Watson’s Activism Has Extended Beyond Film
Watson became globally famous as Hermione Granger in the Harry Potter movies, but her public work has long extended beyond acting. People noted that she was appointed a UN Women Goodwill Ambassador in 2014 and helped launch the HeForShe campaign.
She has also supported Time’s Up and workplace-protection efforts. People reported that Watson helped fund a legal advice hotline in the U.K. for women facing workplace sexual harassment.
