Jay-Z’s Roc Nation has been dismissed from Texas lawsuits tied to attorney Tony Buzbee and the fallout from a now-withdrawn civil case involving Sean “Diddy” Combs.

A Texas judge dismissed the claims against Roc Nation after finding that the court did not have personal jurisdiction over the entertainment company. The ruling removes Roc Nation from the Texas cases for now, but it does not decide whether the underlying allegations were true or false.

TMZ reported that the lawsuits accused Roc Nation and lawyers connected to Jay-Z’s side of improperly targeting Buzbee clients after Buzbee represented a woman who accused Jay-Z and Combs in a separate civil lawsuit.

Complex reported that Texas state Judge Kristen Hawkins issued the ruling on Tuesday, June 16, in claims brought by Gerardo Garcia, Jose Maldonado and the Buzbee Law Firm.

Complex reported that Hawkins found the plaintiffs had not established a basis for a Texas court to hear the claims against Roc Nation.

TMZ reported that the judge dismissed all claims against Jay-Z’s company for lack of jurisdiction. The outlet also noted that the ruling does not address the merits of the allegations, meaning similar claims could potentially be filed in another court.

Buzbee told TMZ after the ruling that his side plans to appeal. “It certainly ain’t over,” he said.

The Lawsuits Grew Out of the Diddy Fallout

The Texas litigation came out of a broader legal fight involving Jay-Z, Buzbee and the civil lawsuits surrounding Combs. Buzbee previously represented an anonymous woman who accused Jay-Z and Combs of sexual assault in a separate federal case.

Jay-Z denied the allegations. In February 2025, that civil lawsuit was voluntarily dismissed with prejudice, which means it cannot be refiled, Reuters reported.

After that dismissal, Roc Nation posted a statement calling it a victory and describing the accusations as “frivolous, fictitious and appalling,” according to Reuters.

Buzbee’s Side Accused Roc Nation of Targeting Clients

Buzbee’s December 2024 lawsuit accused Roc Nation of helping finance a scheme to pressure or entice former Buzbee clients into suing his firm. Business Insider reported at the time that the lawsuit included claims of barratry and conspiracy.

Garcia, one of Buzbee’s former clients, alleged that two investigators came to his Houston home, claimed to be with “the state” and offered him money to join litigation against the Buzbee Law Firm, according to Complex.

Roc Nation denied wrongdoing. In a statement reported by Business Insider, a spokesperson for the company called Buzbee’s lawsuit “another sham” and said it was meant to distract from the larger dispute.

The Ruling Leaves Other Legal Threads Open

TMZ reported that Buzbee said he will appeal, while Complex noted that the Texas ruling leaves open the possibility that claims could be refiled elsewhere. Jay-Z and Buzbee have also been involved in separate legal disputes tied to the withdrawn lawsuit and the public fight over its allegations.
