General Hospital’s Kristina Gets a Life-Changing Twist as Kate Mansi Exits

Kate Mansi is leaving General Hospital, and the soap now appears to have given Kristina Corinthos-Davis a clear path out of Port Charles.

The Daytime Emmy-winning actress confirmed that she made what she called a “very difficult decision” to step away from the ABC soap after three years in the role. Mansi has played Kristina, the daughter of Sonny Corinthos and Alexis Davis, since 2023.

The timing matters for fans because Kristina has been at the center of several heavy storylines during Mansi’s run, including family conflict, romance, grief, endometriosis, and a surrogacy arc that ended in tragedy.

Kristina May Be Leaving for Medical School

Soap Opera Digest reported that the May 26 episode appeared to reveal the story that could take Kristina out of town. During a conversation with Molly outside Bobbie’s, Kristina received a notification on her phone and shared the news: she had been accepted to medical school.

The reveal gives Kristina a practical exit that does not close the door on the character. Instead of killing her off or sending her into a sudden off-screen crisis, General Hospital appears to be moving her toward a new future that can still leave room for a return.

It also connects with Kristina’s history. Soap Opera Digest noted that earlier exits for the character have involved school, including past story turns tied to Yale and Wesleyan.

Mansi Said New Projects and Travel Shaped Her Decision

Mansi described the exit as a timing decision, not a public dispute with the show. In comments reported by TV Insider, she said she has new projects that need her full attention and needs more flexibility because her husband, producer Matt McInnis, is working on a series filming mostly abroad.

She thanked ABC, executive producer Frank Valentini, and the writers for the way they handled Kristina during her run.

Valentini also offered a supportive statement. E! News reported that he said the show loves Mansi, supports her decision, and that the door remains open. TV Insider reported that there are currently no plans to recast Kristina.

Her Version of Kristina Carried Heavy Storylines

Mansi stepped into a role with years of Port Charles history already behind it. Kristina had previously been played by actors including Lexi Ainsworth and Lindsey Morgan, and the character remains tied to two of the show’s biggest families through Sonny and Alexis.

During Mansi’s tenure, Kristina’s stories often moved into difficult emotional territory. TV Insider noted her romance with Blaze, her role running the reopened Charlie’s Pub, and her surrogacy storyline for Molly and T.J.

Mansi has also spoken about the importance of playing an LGBTQ+ character and being part of an endometriosis storyline. That material gave her run a stronger identity than a simple recast handoff.

Mansi Also Directed Episodes of General Hospital

Mansi’s time at General Hospital also moved behind the camera. TV Insider reported that she directed the Nov. 18, 2025 episode after shadowing directors and preparing for the opportunity.

Soap Opera Digest also reported that she directed the March 26, 2026 episode, which focused on Kristina’s endometriosis story.

Before joining General Hospital, Mansi was widely known to daytime viewers for playing Abigail Deveraux DiMera on Days of Our Lives. She won a Daytime Emmy for that role.

Fans Will See Mansi Into June

Mansi has already filmed her final scenes, but viewers will continue seeing her as Kristina into June. Soap Opera Digest reported that her final episode is expected sometime next month.

That gives General Hospital time to play out Kristina’s medical school news and the family conversations that follow. For a character as connected as Kristina, an exit tied to a future plan gives the show more flexibility than a permanent goodbye.

The cleanest version of the news is also the most useful one for fans: Mansi is leaving by choice, Kristina appears to be getting a life-change exit, the role is not currently being recast, and the door remains open for another return to Port Charles someday.
