Jason Statham returns as Adam Clay in the first teaser for The Beekeeper 2, released by Amazon MGM Studios on October 15. The retired operative is now confronting the organization that made him, PEOPLE reported.
Jeremy Irons returns as Wallace Westwyld, a former CIA director who approaches Clay with a warning: the Beekeepers have gone rogue and are trying to take control of the U.S. government. He asks Clay to help stop them.
The Miramax sequel opens exclusively in U.S. theaters through Amazon MGM Studios on Friday, January 15, 2027. That puts its arrival almost exactly three years after the original movie’s American debut on January 12, 2024.
The first film earned $66.2 million domestically and $96.4 million internationally, bringing its worldwide total to approximately $162.6 million, according to Box Office Mojo. Its U.S. and Canadian opening weekend accounted for about $16.6 million of that run.
Clay Gets a Weaponized Dodge Super Bee
Clay’s new equipment includes a customized 1969 Dodge Super Bee carrying a Gatling-style gun, as UPI reported. The teaser also pits him against an attacker carrying a flamethrower. He turns the weapon against its owner, then delivers a joke at the defeated man’s expense: “Next time, don’t be so hotheaded.”
The film had an earlier industry preview at CinemaCon in April. Entertainment Weekly reported that Statham introduced that presentation in a recorded message and that the footage included Clay covering a wound with bees.
The First Film Started With a Phishing Scam
Clay began the original movie tending actual bees on the property of Eloise Parker, a retired schoolteacher played by Phylicia Rashad. After scammers stole her savings and money she managed for a charity, Eloise died by suicide. Her death prompted Clay to leave retirement and hunt down the people responsible, as TheWrap’s review recounts.
Clay’s attacks took him from a scam call center to the executives behind the operation. The trail led to Derek Danforth, the wealthy executive played by Josh Hutcherson, whose mother was the sitting U.S. president. Derek had Westwyld on his payroll, drawing the former intelligence chief into efforts to contain Clay’s attacks.
Pom Klementieff, Yara Shahidi and Adam Copeland Join the Cast
Pom Klementieff appears in the teaser wielding a knife during a fight. The actress, known for playing Mantis in the Guardians of the Galaxy films and appearing in the Mission: Impossible series, joins the franchise alongside Grown-ish star Yara Shahidi and professional wrestler and actor Adam Copeland.
LEONINE Studios, the film’s German distributor, confirmed that Jemma Redgrave reprises her role as President Jessica Danforth. Emmy Raver-Lampman also returns as FBI agent Verona Parker, Eloise’s daughter, alongside Bobby Naderi as her partner, agent Matt Wiley.
Timo Tjahjanto Takes Over From David Ayer
Indonesian filmmaker Timo Tjahjanto directs the sequel after David Ayer handled the first installment. Tjahjanto’s previous films include the 2018 Netflix action thriller The Night Comes for Us, known for its extended martial-arts fights, and Nobody 2, which continued Bob Odenkirk’s action franchise. Ayer remains involved as an executive producer.
Kurt Wimmer, who created the characters and wrote the original film, shares the sequel’s screenplay credit with Zak Penn. Penn’s credits include Ready Player One and Free Guy. Statham produces alongside Chris Long and Wimmer, according to the credits published by BroadwayWorld. The film is rated R for strong bloody violence and language.
Statham has starred in three other action films since the first Beekeeper: A Working Man in 2025, followed by Shelter and Mutiny in 2026. His upcoming projects include Jason Statham Stole My Bike, an action-comedy in which he is set to play a fictionalized version of himself.
