Jennifer Lopez is not rushing back into romance after her split from Ben Affleck.
During a May 27 appearance on Jimmy Kimmel Live!, the singer and actress said she is single, happy, and surprised by how much she likes this chapter.
When Jimmy Kimmel asked about her relationship status, Lopez said she was single, then joked that she “shoulda done it sooner.” PEOPLE reported that she added she had been “doing it all wrong” and described single life as “fantastic.”
Lopez Shut Down the Bachelorette Idea
Kimmel pushed the joke further by asking whether Lopez would ever consider becoming the next Bachelorette. Entertainment Weekly reported that Lopez rejected the idea and said she did not want to do anything that could mess up how good she feels right now.
Lopez did not say she is closed off to love forever. PEOPLE reported that she said she could meet somebody “if somebody good enough comes along.”
The Comments Follow Her Divorce From Ben Affleck

Lopez filed for divorce from Affleck on Aug. 20, 2024, a little more than two years after they married in Las Vegas in July 2022. PEOPLE reported that the divorce was finalized in January 2025.
The former couple’s relationship had carried decades of public attention. Lopez and Affleck first dated in the early 2000s, ended their original engagement in 2004, then reunited in 2021 before marrying the following year.
She Has Talked About Taking Time for Herself
Lopez’s Kimmel comments follow earlier remarks about taking time after the divorce. PEOPLE reported that she told Good Morning America in March that she took a year off work to sit with what had happened instead of running from it through work, another relationship, or constant distraction.
She also said she was learning to enjoy being on her own after spending much of her adult life in relationships.
Lopez Is Also Preparing for a Family Change
The interview also touched on her children. PEOPLE reported that Lopez said she had been crying for two months as her 18-year-old twins, Max and Emme, prepare to leave for college.
Lopez shares Max and Emme with ex-husband Marc Anthony. She told Kimmel that the idea of them leaving home has been emotional, even as she joked through parts of the conversation.
