Kylie Kelce’s invitation for the Princess of Wales to visit her podcast is still open, but she has already made one correction before Catherine ever sits down behind a Not Gonna Lie microphone.
Kelce revisited the royal invitation during her Oct. 1 episode after learning that the way she addressed Catherine a week earlier was not considered appropriate. According to PEOPLE, Kylie said she had been unaware of the issue with calling her “Princess Kate” and offered an apology.
The mix-up began during the Sept. 24 episode, when Kylie praised Catherine’s athletic ability and invited her to talk about field hockey, children and the similarities between their lives. She referred to her at the time as “Princess Kate, Duchess of Cambridge,” wording she now says she intends to correct.
Catherine’s husband, Prince William, appeared on Jason and Travis Kelce’s New Heights podcast in July, giving Kylie an easy opening to suggest that the other half of the royal couple should visit her show next.
Kylie Says She Didn’t Know ‘Princess Kate’ Was the Wrong Way to Address Her
Kylie called the moment a learning experience rather than trying to defend the wording she had used the previous week.
“I love learning,” she said during the Oct. 1 episode, explaining that she had not realized calling Catherine “Princess Kate” would be considered offensive. E! News reported that she promised to adjust the way she referred to the royal immediately.
She also emphasized that the mistake was not intentional. Kylie said she wants to refer to people in whatever way makes them feel respected and directly apologized to the Princess of Wales.
PEOPLE notes that Catherine has been widely known as Kate Middleton for more than two decades, making the distinction less obvious to people who do not closely follow royal naming conventions.
The Royal Family officially styles her as The Princess of Wales. Catherine and William became the Prince and Princess of Wales in September 2022 after King Charles III succeeded Queen Elizabeth II.
The Original Invitation Started With Catherine Playing Shinty

Kylie’s royal pitch began with sports rather than titles.
Catherine and William visited Scotland’s Isle of Bute on Sept. 17, where they stopped at the Bute Shinty and Amateur Athletic Club. The official Court Circular confirms the visit, while photos and video from the engagement showed Catherine trying the traditional Scottish sport herself.
Shinty immediately caught Kylie’s attention because of her own field hockey background. Us Weekly reported that Kylie jokingly claimed Catherine’s ability with the curved stick as a victory for field hockey, even while acknowledging that the sport she was actually playing was shinty.
Catherine has a long history with sports. The Royal Family describes her as an enthusiastic supporter and participant in athletics, while Kylie played field hockey at Cabrini University and has remained involved with the sport after college.
That overlap became the basis for Kylie’s invitation. She suggested that the two could talk about field hockey and raising children, saying they had “a couple things in common.”
Wealth of Geeks covered that original invitation when it happened, including Kylie’s deliberately low-pressure plea for Catherine to consider appearing.
Kylie Still Wants Catherine on the Podcast
Kylie explained why she would still genuinely like to interview the Princess of Wales. She pointed to Catherine’s experience as a mother, her sporting background and her experience undergoing cancer treatment as subjects she would be interested in discussing.
She also made it clear that she is not expecting Kensington Palace to immediately call her producer. “I don’t think that anybody owes me anything,” Kylie said, according to PEOPLE.
That did not stop listeners from imagining what a royal episode of Not Gonna Lie might sound like. One commenter suggested Kylie would need to clean up her famously liberal use of curse words before sitting across from Catherine.
Kylie agreed that she would adjust to the situation. E! News reported that she acknowledged loving a curse word but said she understands how to behave respectfully depending on the person and environment.
She was considerably less worried about changing the basic personality of her show. The point, she suggested, would be to have an actual conversation with Catherine rather than suddenly turn Not Gonna Lie into a formal royal interview.
Prince William Has Already Been a Kelce Podcast Guest
Kylie has one particularly persuasive argument for why her royal invitation is not completely unrealistic: William has already done it.
The Prince of Wales appeared on a special July episode of New Heights with Jason and Travis Kelce. Their conversation covered soccer, the World Cup, American football and parenthood.
William even bonded with Jason over raising children. PEOPLE reported that the prince reacted to Jason raising four daughters by telling him, “I don’t know how you do that.”
The families had crossed paths before the podcast as well. William attended Taylor Swift’s 2024 Eras Tour concert at Wembley with Prince George and Princess Charlotte, where the royals met Travis and posed for a widely shared backstage photograph.
Jason later spoke about being nervous before meeting members of the Royal Family, while Travis remembered the encounter during William’s New Heights appearance. CBS News reported that Travis described meeting William and the children as one of his coolest experiences.
Kylie referenced that existing connection while making her own pitch to Catherine: their husbands had already talked on one podcast, so perhaps their wives could do the same on another.
‘Not Gonna Lie’ Has Already Landed Major Guests
A Princess of Wales appearance would obviously operate on a different level, but Kylie has built a guest list that extends well beyond football.
Not Gonna Lie won a Webby Award earlier this year, and PEOPLE notes that previous guests have included Michelle Obama, Sandra Bullock, Jennifer Garner, Kelly Clarkson and Hilary Duff.
The show has become a platform for Kylie to talk about parenting, sports, marriage and whatever happens to have irritated or amused her that week, with the conversational tone remaining part of its appeal.
Catherine has not publicly accepted the invitation, and Kylie herself says she doubts the Princess of Wales has time to appear.
For now, the clearest result of the invitation is a small royal-etiquette lesson. Kylie still wants the interview; she just knows she would introduce her potential guest differently if it ever happens.
