Kylie Kelce and Jason Kelce never selected a complete name for a son, but one part of it would have been easy.
During an appearance on Sunday Sports Club With Allison Kuch, Kylie explained that her father and Jason’s father are both named Edward.
The shared family name made it an obvious way to honor both grandfathers, but only from the middle position.
Kylie repeatedly emphasized that she had never considered Edward as a potential first name.
Edward Was Never Going to Be the First Name
Host Allison Kuch asked whether Kylie and Jason had a boy’s name they never had an opportunity to use. “I don’t even know that we have a boy name selected because we’ve found out the gender every single time,” Kylie said.
The couple therefore knew during each pregnancy that they were expecting a daughter and never needed to finish choosing a name for a son. Kylie did identify one likely component.
“I will say both of our dads are Edwards, so I think it would be very simple to have a middle name of Edward,” she said. She then made the proposed placement unmistakable. “Middle. Emphasis on middle. Aggressively middle,” Kylie joked. “Middle. Middle. I cannot say middle enough. Not the first. Middle.”
The Name Would Have Honored Both Grandfathers
Jason’s father is Ed Kelce, who shares sons Jason and Travis Kelce with his former wife, Donna Kelce. Kylie’s father, Ed McDevitt, is also known as “Big Ed.” The idea also fits the couple’s history of giving their children family-connected middle names.
Their third daughter, Bennett Llewellyn, received a middle name taken from the maiden name of Jason’s late grandmother Mary. Their youngest daughter, Finnley Anne, shares Kylie’s middle name.

Kylie and Jason are parents to four daughters: Wyatt Elizabeth, 6; Elliotte Ray, 5; Bennett Llewellyn, 3; and Finnley “Finn” Anne, 16 months. They welcomed Finnley on March 30, 2025, after announcing several months earlier that they were expecting their fourth girl.
The pregnancy announcement showed Wyatt, Elliotte and Bennett wearing matching “big sister” sweaters while displaying very different reactions. Wyatt appeared stunned, Bennett cried and Elliotte smiled for the camera.
“I feel like we captured a very accurate representation of how each of the girls feel about getting another sister,” Kylie wrote at the time. “At least Ellie, mom and dad are on the same page!”
The Comment Came From a Republished Podcast Episode
Kylie originally appeared on Sunday Sports Club in an episode released March 29. The conversation was republished July 26 as part of the podcast’s “Run It Back” series, bringing renewed attention to her answer about the unused boy’s name.
The wider interview focused on pregnancy, childbirth, gender disappointment, unsolicited parenting advice and the challenges of expanding a family.
Kuch was 36 weeks pregnant when the conversation was recorded, while Kylie reflected on raising four children and adjusting each time another baby joined the household.
