Lady Gaga spent years saying motherhood was the role she wanted most. She has now become a parent without making a public announcement.
The 40-year-old singer and her fiancé, Michael Polansky, have welcomed their first child together, according to TMZ. The news emerged after Gaga and Polansky were photographed in Northern California with a newborn.
No name, sex or exact date of birth has been made public. Gaga and Polansky also have not shared their own announcement about becoming parents, and representatives for the singer did not comment when contacted by reporters.
Keeping the milestone private follows a pattern for the couple. Polansky proposed in April 2024, but the engagement remained out of public view until Gaga introduced him as her fiancé during the Paris Olympics several months later.
The First Photos Revealed Gaga and Polansky Are Parents

Page Six obtained photographs of Gaga and Polansky with the baby during an outing in Northern California. Gaga carried the infant against her chest while Polansky walked beside her.
The photographs arrived without the usual celebrity birth announcement or accompanying details. The baby’s name, sex and date of birth remain private, and Gaga had not previously announced publicly that she was expecting a child.
The couple have also largely stayed away from major public appearances in recent months. Gaga completed the latest stretch of her Mayhem Ball touring schedule earlier this year, while she and Polansky continued keeping much of their personal life outside the spotlight.
Their new family milestone comes nearly seven years after they first met in 2019. Gaga and Polansky began dating after weeks of phone conversations and spent much of the early COVID period living together, a period Gaga has credited with allowing their relationship to develop away from her usual touring and performance schedule.
Gaga Called Motherhood Her ‘Next Starring Role’
Gaga had been speaking openly about wanting children long before the first photographs of her baby appeared.
During an October 2025 appearance on The Late Show With Stephen Colbert, she was asked what she still hoped to do after a career spanning music, acting and large scale touring.
“What I really want is to be a mom,” Gaga said. “That’s my next starring role, I hope.”
The comment followed years of similar remarks. Gaga had talked publicly about motherhood as far back as 2019 and 2020, but her plans became increasingly specific as her relationship with Polansky developed.
She also acknowledged that becoming a parent would change a life that had revolved around performing and creating since she was a teenager. Rather than presenting that adjustment as something she feared, Gaga described motherhood as one of the experiences she most wanted.
She Asked Polansky About Children on Their First Date
Family was part of Gaga and Polansky’s relationship from the beginning.
During a 2025 Good Morning America interview, Gaga said she and Polansky had talked on the phone every day for about three weeks before he flew to Las Vegas to take her on their first date.
Before they even sat down, she asked him directly whether he wanted marriage and children.
“I wanted marriage and kids more than anything,” Gaga recalled. She said Polansky answered yes, after which she asked whether he wanted Champagne.
“I think I wanted him to know that I was, like, a family girl,” she said.
Their relationship later expanded into Gaga’s creative work. Polansky contributed to Mayhem, including several songwriting credits, while Gaga described him as her best friend and someone who had brought stability to a life she had spent largely in public.
They Had Already Talked About the Kind of Parents They Wanted to Be
Gaga and Polansky were also discussing how they hoped to raise children before they became parents.
In a 2025 Elle interview, Gaga said she did not want her career or public identity to determine how her future children understood themselves.
She said she would not try to tell them what her art should mean to them or push them toward a particular way of thinking. Gaga and Polansky had instead talked about giving their children room to develop their own interests and identities.
“That’s something Michael and I have talked about a lot, allowing our kids to be their own people,” she said.
Gaga said children enter a world where adults constantly tell them what to think, believe and even how to live. Her preference was much simpler: “I just kind of want to let my kids find out who they are.”
