Lewis Capaldi’s BST Hyde Park performance became more than another sold-out concert when the singer grew emotional while reflecting on whether he would ever return to the stage.

The Mirror reported that Capaldi broke down during the London show after admitting he had not known if performing again would be possible following his Tourette syndrome diagnosis.

Geo News reported that he was playing to around 65,000 fans during the first of two Hyde Park headline dates.

Capaldi Was Overcome While Speaking to the Crowd

Geo News reported that Capaldi began saying, “To be here with you all and to be able to…” before stopping, turning away from the microphone and wiping his eyes.

Fans responded by chanting his name as he tried to gather himself. Capaldi then continued, saying he had not known whether performing again would be possible and that being there felt “really special.”

The Show Marked a Major Return After His Touring Break

Capaldi stepped back from live shows in 2023 to focus on his mental and physical health while adjusting to the impact of Tourette syndrome. The Guardian reported at the time that he canceled upcoming tour dates after Glastonbury and said he needed more time to feel well enough to perform at the standard fans deserved.

That history made Hyde Park feel especially meaningful. BST Hyde Park’s official site billed the July 11 show as Capaldi’s biggest U.K. festival headline performance to date, with guests including Conan Gray, Jacob Alon, The Vaccines, Absolutely and more.

The Scottish Sun reported that Capaldi’s July 11 Hyde Park show was livestreamed globally on YouTube and that both Hyde Park headline performances were expected to draw about 65,000 fans each, making them the biggest headline shows of his career.

Also, the reaction from fans echoed the public support Capaldi received at Glastonbury in 2023, when audience members helped sing parts of “Someone You Loved” as he struggled on stage.

Capaldi’s Hyde Park weekend followed other 2026 live appearances, including festival dates that helped reintroduce him to large crowds after his extended break.

BST Hyde Park listed a second Capaldi show for Sunday, July 12, after the Saturday performance. Its official pages also listed separate lineups for both dates, with Conan Gray and Jacob Alon appearing across the weekend.
