Mary Kate Golding, a set designer whose credits included The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel and Goosebumps, was found fatally stabbed inside her Queens home on July 21. She was 34.
New York City police responded to the Astoria residence shortly after midnight following a 911 call reporting an assault. Officers discovered Golding in the basement with a stab wound to her back and pronounced her dead at the scene.
Approximately six hours later, police found Golding’s husband, Joseph Azzaretto, unconscious and unresponsive inside nearby Astoria Park. He was also pronounced dead at the scene.
A police source told PEOPLE that investigators were examining the deaths as a possible murder-suicide. The NYPD has not publicly announced a final determination.
Golding Was Found in the Basement of Her Astoria Home
Officers arrived at Golding’s home after midnight and found her with a fatal wound to her back. No arrests have been announced, and police have released few details from their continuing investigation.
Law-enforcement sources cited by the New York Post alleged that Golding and Azzaretto had argued earlier that evening. The sources also claimed that Azzaretto subsequently contacted a relative and one of Golding’s friends and admitted responsibility for the stabbing.
The Couple’s 11-Month-Old Child Was Unharmed
The couple’s 11-month-old child was reportedly inside the residence following the stabbing. A friend who went to the home discovered Golding and removed the baby from the apartment, according to the Post.
The child was not physically injured and was placed in the care of relatives. Authorities have not released further information, and identifying details have been withheld because the child is a minor.
Azzaretto Was Found in Astoria Park Hours Later

At approximately 6:39 a.m., officers responded to a separate 911 call reporting an unconscious person near Astoria Park South and Shore Boulevard.
Police found a man estimated to be between 30 and 35 years old unresponsive inside the park. A law-enforcement source later identified him as Azzaretto, 33.
Sources told multiple outlets that his death appeared to be a suicide, but the medical examiner had not publicly issued a final ruling. The NYPD said the investigation remained open.
Golding Worked Across Film and Television
Golding graduated from New York University in 2015 and built a career in production design and set decoration.
Her credits included The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel, Goosebumps, The Big Sick, Marry Me, Meet Cute, The Flight Attendant, Hawkeye and Mr. & Mrs. Smith. She also received an art-department credit on the upcoming independent film Deep Cuts.
